PRELIM

The Petroleum Refinery Life Cycle Inventory Model (PRELIM) is an Excel-based model that estimates
energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with petroleum refining. Results are
presented by product type based on crude oil assay's properties, simultaneously in two types of
refineries: coking and hydro. It includes a library of 41 crude oil assays from around the world.

USING PRELIM

1- Open the 'Main Input & Output' tab

2- Select a crude assay from the assay inventory

3- Select options related to the refinery configuration, method of allocation and source for electricity
generation

4- Run the model (for selected crude or all assays in inventory)

RED INPUT AND OUTPUT SHEETS

"Input and Output Worksheets" (red tabs) contain most of the information you need to run the model,
select options and explore detailed results. Other worksheets provide additional information, data,
assumptions and calculations.
