Biography for Arab Scholar

Abū Mūsā Jābir ibn Ḥayyān (‫)أﺑﻮ ﻣﻮﺳﻰ ﺟﺎﺑﺮ ﺑﻦ ﺣﯿﺎن‬, born on 721 CE in
Iran. Jabir was known by many names which included: Geber, al-Kufi,
al-Bariqi, al-Sufi, al-Azdi, al-Tusi. He was most known by Geber. As Jabir
grew older, his interest in chemistry increased, even though chemistry was
not common back then. His dad was a pharmacist which explains his interest
in chemistry. Unfortunately, Jabir’s dad was executed for political problems.
Which is why Jabir fled to Yemen. Jabir’s nationality was Umayyad and
Abbasid. His ethnic background was Persian. Jabir had a lot of professions
which included: a polymath, a chemist and alchemist, astronomer and
astrologer, engineer, geographer, philosopher, physicist, and pharmacist and
physician. His best works would include him discovering a systematized
“quantitative” analysis of substances and was the inspiration for Geber and
his contributions to developing an important corpuscular theory of matter.
During the period of his work, he made many books which would include:
Kitab al-Kimya, The invention of verity, The works of Geber, Geber best
writing of Alchemy, The Discovery of Secrets Attributed to Geber, Of the
Investigation, or Search of Perfection. Abū Mūsā Jābir ibn Ḥayyān,
unfortunately, died on 815 CE in Al-Kufah, Iraq. His legacy still lives on
because he is known for being the father of Arabic chemistry.
