READINESS (focusing the lesson on the learner & ensuring students are ready to learn)
I. Goals/Objectives/Standards
Goal – Students will identify and distinguish between the 5 basic landforms of
mountains, hills, valleys, plateaus, and plains.
Standard (CC or IAS) – SSE (IAS):
Objective Statement – Students will identify 2-3 features of each of the five basic
landforms by holding up flashcards and reiterating their answer to the class.

II. Anticipatory Set: We have been talking about continents and countries around the
world. Today we are learning about different types of land around the world. You
have probably heard of most of them, but we are going to look at how you can tell
which is which.

III. Purpose: Students will list 2-3 features of each landform.

IV. Management: All work is either done as a whole class or partner/group.

1. Intro – turn on pp, hand out table


2. Powerpoint and table
3. Transition: now that you have your table in front of you, we will
practice creating landforms with play-doh (partner up with the
person beside you
4. Play-Doh or white board (partner)
5. Transition: assign 3 groups
6. Matching flashcards: “line up mountain, hills, plains, plateau, and
valley cards at the table and match 2 pictures with each landform
7. Formative Assessment: hold up “mountain picture” … list why this
is mountain

VI. Guided Practice: Play-Doh (partner)

VII. Closure/Check for understanding: matching flashcards (three groups)
