Experiment Procedures

The experiment procedures were conducted in the following ways below.

1. We connected to the 240V AC, 50Hz single-phase source and turned on the main switch.
The purpose is to allow the PLC system to warm up for a few seconds before performing the
experiment. (Figure 1)
2. We pressed the UP or DOWN button (example button number 3 which means 3th floor) to
request for the CAR. (Figure 2)

3. When the CAR arrives to the requested floor as we pressed, the Door Operator will open
the lift door for passengers to travel in. (Figure 3)

4. At this moment, when the “FORCE DOOR” OPEN button is pressed, it will force the
DOOR OPERATOR to open the lift door for a moment of time before closing back the lift
door. For “CLOSE DOOR” button, it will force the lift door to close when requested to.
(Figure 4, 5)

5. If there were no force buttons were pressed, the DOOR OPERATOR will close the lift
door and the CAR will travel to passenger’s requested floor, say from “G” to “3”. (Figure 6)

6. When the CAR arrived to the passenger’s requested floor, the DOOR OPERATOR will
open the lift door for passengers to walk out. After a per-programmed time (7 to 10 seconds),
the DOOR OPERATOR will close the lift door. (Figure 7)

7. The CAR will stay and wait for a new request signal (which means to move to the next
floor). (Figure 8)

8. We measured the scale-down size of the in-between floor span for the Lift System
Demonstrator by filing the Table Result of Distance Travelled, Time taken and Speed.

9. We determined the time taken for the Car to travel from one floor to another floor by
filling the Table Result of Distance Travelled, Time Taken and Speed.
