1. You want to see how Gender and Payment method are related to each other. For this purpose, you want to examine the
joint distribution of Gender and Payment method. Use a Pivot Table to create the joint distribution of Gender (Column F)
and Payment method (Column E). You must generate your result using a Pivot Table. Hint: First find the count of
transactions in each joint category and then right click on any cell in your pivot table and express the answers as a % of the
total. Use Copy and Paste Special Values to copy the answers from your pivot table. [3]

2. Use the joint distribution to find the probability a customer selected at random is female and paid by Visa. [2]

Gender Probability
Female 0.585
Male 0.415
Payment Probability
Cash 0.1975
Mastercard 0.4225
VISA 0.38
5. For a randomly selected customer, given that it is a female, what is the distribution of her payment method? Hint:
Click on any cell in the pivot table and decide whether to express the answers as a percent of row total or as a
percent of column total. [2]
Payment

Female Probability
Cash 17.9%
Mastercard 43.6%
VISA 38.5%
6. For a randomly selected customer, given that it is a male, what is the distribution of his payment method? [2]
Payment
Method of
Male Probability
Cash 22.3%
Mastercard 40.4%
VISA 37.3%
7. Do you think male and female roughly have the same preferences in terms of payment method? Explain your
answer in the text box below. Hint: compare the two conditional probabilities in parts 5. and 6. [2]
Males and Females do have similar preferences as in order of percentages most Females and Males opted
for Mastercard,VISA and Cash respectively with a maximum percentage difference of ~5%
8. Now you want to focus on customers with higher spending. For a randomly selected customer who spent at least
$150, what is the probability that he/she is from the West? Hint: Use the COUNTIF and COUNTIFS functions. [4]
0.301
9. Use the Filter option in pivot tables to produce a breakdown for Total Cost by type of payment vs. gender for each
region and for all regions taken together. [4] HINT: Values should be sum of total cost
