City of Jackson Announces Bridge Closures Set for

Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30, 2018

The Office of State Aid Road Construction, as part of federally-mandated annual bridge
inspections, has directed the City of Jackson to close four bridges due to issues found with
timber piles, headwalls, and/or other timber components on each bridge. These closures are in
addition to three bridges closed in the past week. The bridges that are to be closed and their
detour routes are as follows:
 Hawthorne Dr between Sherwood Dr and Robin Dr (Eubanks Creek bridge)
o Detour route: Sherwood Dr/Mohawk Ave to Council Cir to Chickasaw Ave
 Cavalier Dr between Old Canton Rd and Wood Dale Dr (Eubanks Creek Tributary bridge)
o Detour route: Old Canton Rd to Ridge Dr/Wood Dale Dr
 Woodway Dr between State St and Manhattan Rd (Hanging Moss Creek Tributary
bridge)
o Detour route: Manhattan Rd to Cedars of Lebanon Rd to State St
 Beasley Rd between Livingston Rd and Northwest Industrial Pkwy (Hanging Moss Creek
bridge)
o Detour route: Livingston Rd or Watkins Dr to W County Line Rd to Northwest
Industrial Pkwy

Due to the number of bridges ordered closed this week, City crews will close
 Hawthorne and Cavalier on Thursday, March 29, 2018 by 12:00 noon
 Beasley, Ford, and Woodway will be closed on Friday, March 30, 2018 by 12:00 noon

These closures are in additions to three other bridges closed in the past week:
 Colonial Cir (Adkins Blvd) between Orchardview Dr and Old Canton Rd (Purple Creek
bridge)
 Raymond Rd between Siwell Rd and Hidden Valley Ln (Big Creek bridge)
 Henderson Rd approximately 200 ft. south of McCleur Rd (Trahon Creek bridge)

The issues found with the timber components of each bridge are such that state inspectors have
determined that the bridges cannot carry federal minimum weight loads for cars (3 tons gross
weight). The Department of Public Works is reviewing each bridge inspection report to
determine repair or replacement options and funding sources for each bridge. These closures
could last anywhere from 6 to 18 months depending on the work needed on each bridge.

In addition, the Ford Ave entrance to Hawkins Field will be reduced to one lane traffic due to
issues found with the timber piles found under the westbound lane. Inspectors found that the
eastbound lane did not have similar issues with timber piles and can remain open. The
eastbound lane will be open for traffic in both directions yielding to each other. The bridge will
continue to have a posted weight limit of 5 tons.

Motorists and residents are advised to obey the closure signage and utilize detour routes.
