During 2014, Christopher Nolan had released another cinematic wonder that would be liken to the classic film,

2001: A Space Odyssey, and was even able to create not only a film full of scientific facts and theories but also
places an emotional and family story in the process. This film is called Interstellar. In the beginning of the film,
Cooper and his daughter, Murph, had been discussing the weird occurrences inside Murph’s room and
eventually Cooper was able to decipher one of those occurrences and was able to locate the hidden base of
NASA. Eventually, Cooper was asked to pilot the team that would find the possible new homes for the human
civilization as Earth has been in a state of degradation, with the eco-system slowly dying. The team was
successful in passing through the wormhole near Saturn, and slowly went its way to the planet founded by
Miller, one the earlier astronauts. However, their mission was a failure as the planet soon proved to be
inhabitable with its proximity to Gargantua, a super black hole, which delayed the aging process of Cooper and
Brand, due to gravitational time dilation. Eventually, they went after Mann’s planet and was actually led into a
trap which caused the deaths of Romilly and Mann and the intense damage towards their ship. Cooper
eventually used the strong gravitational pull of Gargantua and helped slingshot the ship towards the last planet,
but he had to sacrifice his life in order to do so by entering the black hole. As Cooper entered the black hole, he
reached a tesseract wherein he was able to interact with his daughter and was able to give her the information
gathered from the black hole and was able to save the remaining humans from Earth by being able to launch a
huge spaceship without having any problems with gravity.

One very interesting note in the movie is its depiction of time. In the movie, time was depicted to be relative in
nature. The best example of this would be in the scene concerning the planet of Miller’s. Romilly said that an
hour in the planet corresponds to 7 years in Earth. After Cooper had stayed in the planet for only around 3
hours, he was told by Romilly that 23 years had actually passed. In that span of 3 hours for Cooper, Murph was
already the same age as he was and his son had already started a family of his own. This was the explanation
provided by the film to explain that time in its nature is relative and it is actually relative to gravity. Gravity
affects time due to the concept of gravitational time dilation. This event can be scene on Miller’s planet as it had
a close proximity with Gargantua, a super black hole, which has a super strong gravitational pull.

The movie is possible to happen and I used possible because we are still unsure about the current theories of the
world whether or not they are truly true or not, but based on the current studies published and experimented on,
the movie has some sort of reality that can happen. There are 2 instances wherein I may disagree that these may
happen in the world. The first would be the passing through the wormhole. Currently, wormholes are known to
be small in size and are very unstable in nature. According to Kip Thorne, travelling through wormholes are
forbidden according to the laws of physics, which may indicate that traveling through is not yet presently
capable. Another instance would be the tesseract wherein Cooper and TARS were sent to. This was a place
wherein it contains an infinite scene that contained Murph’s room wherein time is infinite. This place was said
to have been created by future humans and this may indicate some sort of time travel which is still highly
unlikely to happen given our level of understanding in the universe.
There was a line in the movie that would have struck people. This line was “Love is the one thing that we're
capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space.” For me, I believe that this may be true.
Love is a feeling that humans are usually able to perceive very well even if they could not properly define what
it is. It is something that a human being would naturally understand or perceive even if they don’t have a clue.
