DESCRIPTION

The power steering control valve actuator is located on the power steering pump
below the engine on the LH side. The power steering control valve actuator
generates a differential pressure, dependent on flow and current input.
This differential pressure is used to control the spool valve in the CIII power
steering pump.
The power steering control valve actuator/spool valve regulates the hydraulic
flow and when combined with a current controlling device, yields a variable
assist power steering pump.
The EVO Power Steering Control Valve Actuator generates a differential
pressure, dependent on flow and current input.
In the event of an electrical circuit malfunction such as circuit open, shorted,
or control module failure, the actuator will provide full power steering assist.

OPERATION
The output current to the power steering control valve actuator is a function of
vehicle speed and the steering wheel rotation rate.

When vehicle speed is less than 16 km/h (10 mph) the power steering control
valve actuator output current is less than 60 mA and full power steering
assist is provided.
As vehicle speed increases to 40 km/h (25 mph), the current increases

linearly to 300 mA.

As vehicle speed continues to increase up to 142 km/h (88 mph), the
current increases linearly to 590 mA. The current then remains constant at
590 mA for vehicle speeds greater than 142 km/h (88 mph).
Conversely, as vehicle speeds decrease, the current decreases at the linear
rate.
