Classroom Management

The only way that any students can learn in a classroom setting is if there is effective

classroom management in place. I believe an effective teacher understands that students are

teenagers who are still discovering who they are and who they want to be. In addition, peer

pressure, family adversities, social life, and other situations can make it difficult for a student to

focus on any of their class work.

There are a few ways to have an effectively managed classroom. Positive and fulfilling

student-teacher relationships are important because it opens the door for great communication

between teachers and students, clear expectations, and openness to questions. Another important

aspect is having an accepting and being willing to embrace all students of all different

backgrounds. It allows for a warm learning environment where students feel welcome and

excited to go into the classroom.

An obvious yet difficult strategy to have an effectively managed classroom is to have an

organized lesson. Lessons are even more effective if students are allowed to interact with each

other. For my lesson plans, I will try to incorporate interactive activities for students to learn the

materials, instead of sitting through hours of lectures. This will engage students to be more

comfortable with their peers, while being able to learn with each other. I believe that the best

way to encourage a student to achieve in school is to have them learn though a student-centered

approach where a student is allowed the opportunity to exhibit self-discipline leadership and

cooperative skills.

The ideal thing would be for a well-organized lesson to diminish misbehaviors within the

classroom, however this is not always the case. That is why it is important to prepare yourself

before the school year starts. As an educator, I will plan out and follow a timeline for teaching

while also allowing for flexibility if needed. I will also include a record-keeping system prepared

for attendance, grade, and behavior. It is also important to remember t not make classroom rules

extremely difficult to obtain by the students. A common strategy other educators use is the

disclosure that is to be signed by both the student and the parent or guardian. I will also hold my

students to the standard of being to class on time, as well as participating in class discussions and

activities.

If misbehavior does occur, I feel that instead of arguing with a student, it is a good tactic

to pull the student to the side, away from their peers. Many times, students feel that they must

show their peers their alpha side, but when pulled to the side, they need to calm down and meet

the same level as the educator. It gives the student the opportunity to express how they feel, in a

calm and collective manner. If they behavior continues, it must be addressed to the parents and

principals. Ultimately, parents are the ones who will influence the students the most, and the

principals will assist in taking further actions to help discipline the student. If parents chose not

to take action with their student, then as an educator, we must do our best to help these students

as well as the other students in the classroom to succeed.

Overall, it is important as an educator to remember that we are the ones that are in control

of our classrooms. To manage the classroom, we must accept that we are responsible for being in

charge of teaching our students, and believe in yourself that you can accomplish this.
