Fan Culture is a subculture produced by fans that is characterized by empathetic emotions
with other individuals who are interested in the same subject matter. The interests of fan
culture vary. From Tv shows, to cosplaying, to music, the list goes on. Fans develop
extensive knowledge of their music, tv shows etc. and even a sense of ownership over their
fandom. E.g. Using the word “our” when referring to the fandom name. “Our fandom is the
most loyal”. The Korean Wave (한류) Hallyu Wave is the increase in global popularity of
South Korean Culture. First driven by the spread of K-dramas and K-pop across East, South
and Southeast Asia during its initial stages, the Korean Wave evolved from a regional
development into a global phenomenon, carried by the Internet and social media and the
proliferation of K-pop music videos on YouTube.
