Interactive Program: Creating Polygons

Description: Students make and compare a variety of polygons, describing the salient
properties of the shapes they create.

Performance Objective #1:

Geometry and measurement. The student is expected to:

(A) create two-dimensional shapes based on given attributes, including number of

sides and vertices;

This interactive activity can be used to reinforce what the students already know- there
basic 2D shapes like the ones in the screen shot. It will also help students to see the
difference in triangles (equilateral, acute, obtuse, etc.)

Performance Objective #2:

Geometry and measurement. The student is expected to:

(B) classify and sort polygons with 12 or fewer sides according to attributes,
including identifying the number of sides and number of vertices;

After a lesson on the difference between polygons and non-polygons, this activity will
help to further enhance what is being taught. It will give the students a chance to
experiment with shape play and what is and is not a polygon.
