(Use another sheet of paper if required.) Cross Creek High School isa suburban school which serves grades 9-12 in the Richmond County School ‘System (RCSS). Cross Creek opened in 1999 to relieve overcrowding at nearby Hephzibah High School and Butler High School, who are archrivals. The school is in its nineteenth year of existence and has established itself in the community as one of the top schools in the area. The school has a reputation for having one of the safest learning environments in the system as well as top academic and athletic Programs. Student learning is the main priority and is the primary focus of al decisions impacting our school. Each student is @ valued individual who learns in different ways and should be provided with a variety of instructional approaches and assessments to support his/her learning. Use of Funds/Value of Project AAs the media specialist, | have the privilege of collaborating with all teachers and subjects including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. One of my professional goals s to integrate technology and literacy skills into the curriculum. | believe Virtual Reality(VR) is an emerging technology that will impact education in all areas. VR technology provides students with a gateway to more opportunities but from the safety of the classroom. Students will be able to observe first hand the effects of acidification on oceans, experience the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack, blast off inside the cockpit of apollo 11, watch in person as the Berlin Wall comes crashing down. Students will participate as opposed to merely studying an abstract idea. In the arena of mathematics, the University of Maine has developed a program called Handwaver. HandWaver is @ gesture-based virtual mathematical making environment where learners at all levels can use their hands to act on mathematical figures directly, without mediating their intuitions through equations, keyboards, or mouse movements. HandWaver combines aspects of dynamic geometry in virtual reality with new modes of building mathematical objects, such as the ability to use one’s hands to stretch objects between dimensions; eg., points can be stretched into line segments, segments can be stretched into plane figures, and plane figures can be stretched into solids. Georgia state standards are readily applicable to a wide range of subject areas by integrating VR experiences to existing lessons plans. New applications and experiences are being released every month ‘ensuring the HTC Vive will continue to increase the library educational uses. | will create a portable VR workstation based on the HTC Vive. This station will be available to be moved to the school or set up in the Media Center. The entire school including all grade levels will benefit from the purchase.
