Preparing for school closures
Rainbow Fleet helps parents find child care during planned teacher walkout
Oklahoma parents looking for
child care options during the
planned teacher walkout can
find free help from Rainbow
Fleet.
Teachers in districts across
Oklahoma have indicated that they
plan to walk out of their
classrooms on April 2 if the
Oklahoma legislature does not
fund pay raises for teachers and
support personnel. With no
indication how long schools may
be closed, parents across the state
are seeking short-term daytime
care for their children.
Rainbow Fleet, a nonprofit child
care resource and referral agency,
can help parents locate quality
child care options and resources
address, list of persons who would
in their area. Tailored referrals are
constructed from up-to-date
listings of licensed family child
care homes, child care centers and
part-day care programs. The
service is free. Parents can access
this free resource by calling

Rainbow Fleet also has a list of

food options for school-aged
children that will be impacted by

Williams, Rainbow Fleet’s
executive director. “In addition to
our statewide referral line, we are
working to gather a list of child
care providers offering emergency
care for school-aged children as
well as other community
organizations that are planning to
offer child care options for the
duration of the walkout.”
