FLEXR-C Product Description Issue 1 November 2006

1 Introduction
FLEXR-C™ series products are network management system which are used to
manage and maintain MSTP network elements built by FLASHWAVE™ 4070,
FLASHWAVE™ 4170, FLASHWAVE™ 4270, FLASHWAVE™ 4275,
FLASHWAV™E 4370 and FLASWAHVE™ 4470 products.

The FLEXR-C™ series network management system products include FLEXR-L™

local craft terminal and FLEXR-C™.

The FLEXR-C™ has both element management and network management

function which is designed for FLASHWAVE™ 4070, FLASHWAVE™ 4170,
FLASHWAVE™ 4270, FLASHWAVE™ 4275, FLASHWAV™E 4370 and
FLASWAHVE™ 4470 products to provide comprehensive fault, configuration,
performance, security management and end-to-end network and service
management for SDH/PDH layer and data layer. FLEXR-C™ is based on a
client-server architecture, which identifies logical functionality groupings and is
open and modular for maximum interoperability and flexibility.

Network administrators and operators access FLEXR-C™ functions from a

Java-based client. The Java-based client provides a graphical user interface that
enables access to all FLEXR-C™ server functions.

FLEXR-C Product Description Issue 1 November 2006

2 Features
The FLEXR-C™ main features are listed in Tab. 2.1.

Feature Description
Java-Based Client • Java-based client interface to connect to the NE
Interface
Multi-user operating • Simultaneous muti-user operation (up to 30 users or 40 users for
extra large network)
WIMP Style • WIMP (Window, Icon, Mouse and Pointer) Style User Interface in
Clients
Migration from • FLEXR-C™ R10.3 migrates from FLEXR-C™ v10.2.
FLEXR-C™ v10.2
Server Admin • FLEXR-C™ Server runs as a service of windows operation
Client system. Operator can do FLEXR-C™ Server management via the
Admin Client. Following operations can be done: database
management, security management, NE management, system
events and online users monitoring, license management, and server
status query.
Server • The server cold-standby protection group comprises two kinds of
cold-standby servers, which are installed separately on two computers, with one
used to protect in the event of a station failure. If the active server
doesn’t work, the backup server has to be activated by the operator
and will take over the work of the active server. The standby server
database population has to be executed via backup database.

2
FLEXR-C Product Description Issue 1 November 2006

Feature Description
Server • The server warm-standby protection group comprises two suits of
warm-standby servers, which are installed the two computers separately, and is
used to protect one station failure. The active database will update
the backup database automatically while active Application Server
Software running, but the Network Management Appliation Server
Software in backup hardware machine will not be run.
• If the active server doesn’t work, the Network Management Appliation
Server Software in backup server has to be activated by the operator
manually and will take the work of the active server, and the client
has to be changed to connect to the standby server manually.

Note: In FLEXR-C™ R10.3, the backup server is the standby for the

active server, whereas the active server does not support standby
function.
IP DCN or OSI
• By default, FLEXR-C™ will use IP DCN to communicate with the NE
DCN
• When FLASWHAVE™ 4x7x NEs are equipped with an OSI DCN
(OSI Light) in alternative to the IP DCN. FLEXR-C™ shall be able to
communicate with this NE´s via a IP / OSI Wrapper, which converts
the SNMP Telegrams into OSI Telegrams and vice versa.
Scalability • Support up to 400 NE equivalents in Small configuration
• Support up to 1500 NE equivalents in Medium configuration
Whole System • Server Database information can be backed up or restored manually
Database Backup
and Restore
Specific Data • System should support following data history backup/restore function
History Backup and manually:
Restore (1) Alarm History
(2) Performance History Data
(3) Events
(4) Operation Log
Archiving Data • The following history tables in the database can be archived
History manually or automatically:
(1) Alarm History
(2) Performance History Data
(3) Events
(4) Operation Log
