Equation: x2 -8x + 12
Business: The BBQ Shack
How to Solve by Factoring:
Step 1- I need to find two numbers that multiply to 12 and add to -8. Those two numbers are -6
and -2.
-6 * -2= 12, -6 + -2 = -8
Step 2- now I can use the zero-product property to solve the equation. (x- 6) (x- 2)
x - 6= 0, x – 2= 0
x= 6, 2 (this is the years that cut even at the end of the year)
Finding the Vertex: x2 – 8x + 12= 0
Step 1- The x-coordinate of the vertex is (-b/20) thus (-8/2(1)) = (8/2). To find the
y-coordinate I would substitute (8/2) in for x in my quadratic equation.
Step 2- (8/2)2 – 8 (8/2) + 12 = -4
Our business is a barbeque restaurant in Louisiana. The name of our restaurant is The BBQ

Shack. Since this is a popular industry, it was a rough beginning for the restaurant. Starting the

business was the toughest since the bank gave us a small loan. The first couple of years business

was not good at all going into dept, but for the 2nd year we broke even almost closing the

business down. However, Gordon Ramsey was a savior, he tried our food and loved it at first

taste giving us shouts out and even having us on his show. This gave the shack life, we were

packed every night, money was coming in fast. Just in one year we were at an all time high, but

our 6th year we broke even with our 2nd year encouraging us that we might just get out of dept.

After the 6th year we made over 4 million dollars and was increasing every year. For the BBQ

Shack we increased our profits and even started other business in the United States, were are

even thinking about expanding to the world.
