COURSE HANDOUT (PART-II)
Date: 08/01/2018
In addition to Part-I (General Handout for all courses appended to the timetable), this portion gives
further specific details regarding the course.
Course Code : MF F473
Name of the Course : PRODUCT DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
Instructor-In-Charge : NITIN KOTKUNDE
I. Scope and Objective of the Course:
This course is designed to impart the knowledge required to develop a new product – understand
the opportunity, develop and implement a concept. After the successful completion of this course,
students shall be able to understand and implement the various processes, tools and techniques
required for a product design and development like product specification development; product
architecture; concept generation, concept selection, concept testing and embodiment; industrial
design; design for X; analytical and numerical models.
II. Textbook (TB):
1. Kevin Otto and Kristin Wood, “Product Design: Techniques in Reverse Engineering and
New Product Development”, 2004, Pearson Education, New Delhi
III. Reference Books (RB):
