Digital Storytelling Night Lesson Plan & Student Templates

Overview

Subject Digital Storytelling through Voice Thread


Grade Level Grades K-12

Materials iPad, cell phones, laptops, tablets

Objectives Students should be able to showcase their artifacts through digital recording.
The primary goal is to incorporate family bonding while teaching students and
their guardians about a useful tool.

Create audio recordings of stories or poems; add drawings or other
visual displays to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to
clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

Create engaging audio recordings of stories or poems that demonstrate
fluid reading at an understandable pace; add visual displays when
appropriate to emphasize or enhance certain facts or details.

2.2 People share similarities and differences with others in their own

 Students will examine the ethnic and/or cultural groups represented
in their classroom.
 Students will explore the cultural diversity of their local community
by identifying activities that have been introduced by different
cultural groups.

Teaching Timeline

Step 0 Arrival and Set up (5:15-5:30 arrival)

Step 1 Opening – Warmly greet the families that attend and direct them to the cafeteria
where there will be free water bottles and snacks. Point out the exit and
restrooms before the speaker comes on stage. (5 min).

Step 2 Sorting/Ordering: Give each group their own white board with markers as well
as the name of the app they should download to make their digital story. (5 min)

Step 3 Pre-scripting: Using the whiteboard, students will write down their 3 artifacts
and present it for all to see. This will give everyone the knowledge on what the
digital story they are about to experience. Students will work with their families
and design their own story, based on their artifacts, using the template on the
app. (35min)

Step 4 Digital Storytelling procedures –


-Participants will take turns circling around to view everyone’s digital story
-Once everyone has made a full round, then the public speaker will ask
questions such as “What creative features did you see walking around?”, “How
did working together help in creating the digital story?” etc.

Step 7 Extension:
Ask parents to leave feedback to the school’s activity board leader.

Step 8 Reflection – Offer a survey via google forms.
