 Do plants grow faster when they are exposed

to music? Furthermore does the type of music

make a difference?

? ?
 Music and plants
 The effect of music on plants growth has
been researched by many scientists.
 Experiments are conducted regularly by
scientists and experts and students trying to
prove that plants grow faster when exposed
to music.
 There have been experiments conducted to
prove that because music consists of sound
waves through the air at different
frequencies, plants exposed to sound waves
could be stimulated to grow faster.
Independent variable: Musical stimulation

Dependent Variable: Growth of the plant.

Controlled Variables: Water amount

Type of plant
How long music is played
Type of music played
Amount of sunlight
Materials  1 block of planting
soil.
 2 packages of radish
seeds.
 6 seeding
containers.
 Water
 Ruler
 Music player
 Pen and paper.
• Planting the seeds.
I planted 10 seeds in
each pot.
• I had a total of six pots,
two for each group.
• Group A: 2 pots will
have no music.
• Group B: 2 pots will
listen to classical music.
• Group C: 2 pots will
listen to heavy metal
music.
 During the day all pots are kept in the same place next to a window where they all get
the same amount of light.
 At 5pm all plants were watered the same amount every day 20oz.
 All groups are measured and the data is recorded.
 From 5:15pm to 9pm Groups B ( Classical music) and C ( Heavy metal music) are
separated group A and placed in different rooms to listen to music .
 9pm Pots are moved back to original location next to a window.

According to the data collected over a period of 22 days,
when comparing the results for each group A( no music),
group B( Classical Music),and group C ( Heavy metal music),
it shows how the plants exposed to music ( groups B and C)
grew faster than the plants not exposed to music ( Group A).

Furthermore, the plants exposed to music ( group B and C)

were able to germinate faster than the plants in Group A that
were not exposed to music.
Based on the information on the data sheet
and the analysis graph, the hypothesis
holds true: Plants exposed to music grow
faster than those that are not exposed to
music, also the type of music makes a
difference as well.
