JACK HUGHES
Realistically I still think we need 5 wins from our final 6
games to finish in the top 5 which should enable us to gain
promotion.
Dan Stevens
MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER
The relentless weather yet again put paid to our attempts
to play our Worcester and Newport away games over the
Easter weekend. Both fixtures have now been cancelled
three times and whilst we are not in a predicament that
some clubs in the UK find themselves it does create some
complexities and makes our season end busier. We now
must travel to Worcester on a Thursday night and that will
also mean they have to find us an alternative venue as they
have no floodlights.
Saints had gone into the game in 5th place in the table, 2 points behind 4th placed Dar-
laston (having played the same number of games) and a further 8 points behind 2nd
placed Newport Town with a game in hand over their Shropshire rivals, with Gornal Ath-
letic lying in 3rd place a point behind Newport.
Meanwhile, Team Dudley (playing their 4th game in 10 days) had gone into the game in
6th place, a point behind Saints having played a game more than Dan Stevens' side.
Saints eventually took the lead in the 18th minute when Jamie Hands' forward chip down
the middle found Shawn Melusi who took a touch before laying it back to Dave Harts-
horn, who fired his first time left foot shot from 15 yards past advancing Dudley keeper
Josh Rogers.
Just 2 minutes later, it was 2-0 when Hands' great defence-splitting ball over the top on
the left between Simon King and James Bird found Harrison Millington, who took a touch
to switch the ball from his right foot onto his left before dinking his shot from 16 yards
past the advancing Rogers.
It was eventually 3-0 in the 75th minute when Hands' great low through ball from middle
to left found Hartshorn who checked and cut in to the box before firing his right foot shot
from 15 yards into Rogers' topo left hand corner.
The St Martins Man of the Match award (kindly sponsored by Hartey Wealth Manage-
ment) was won by Jamie Hands.
This win saw Saints move up one place to 4th in the table, 4 points behind 3rd placed
Gornal with a game in hand and a further point behind 2nd placed Newport (from the
same number of games) ahead of their Easter Saturday visit to Newport.
Schools unfortunately did not take things to seriously and the parents were look-
ing to get involved on a more organised basis. little did we know what we had
started.
From those days we have grown from one Under 12 team to a compliment of 25
teams including 4 girls teams. Three of the founder members of 1975 are still in-
volved including myself. We recently celebrated our 37th year for which, I person-
ally am very proud. If anyone could have told me in that first year
that we would still be in existence now I would not have believed them. When I
told no less a figure by the name of Ronnie Allen (he coached our first team thanks
to a parent friend) that we were thinking of running 3 teams the following season
he advised me not to. There has not been a season when we haven gained an ex-
tra team + One of our proudest moments has been the inauguration of our Mini
Soccer Academy, which started 6 years ago. We now involve boys and girls from 6
years of age in correct soccer training on a weekly basis throughout the year. An-
other landmark was the beginning of adult soccer in 1993. Bustleholme now play
in the West Midlands Premier League.
2005 saw us celebrating our 30th year of existence, during which we held our big-
gest ever Football Festival which was held over two consecutive weekends in June
and attracted over 250 teams.
January 2006 Bustleholme F.C received the F.A. Charter Standard Award, but are
still pursuing our aim to achieve the highest level of the F.A STANDARD CHARTER.
