THE TRUMPET CALL

Our Mission: To love Jesus Christ and to share His Love

Our Vision: To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives
East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Volume IV Issue 14 April 08, 2018

Pastor’s Corner
Last week was what we call “Holy Week,” the week leading up to Easter. Incidentally, this week is Holy Week
for Christians in the Orthodox faith community, for reasons too complicated to explain here. It was a special
Holy Week for us at ESUMC. Special thanks go to Erica Dorsch, Director of Children and Family Ministry, and
to her faithful assistant, Liz Green, who transformed the downstairs education area into Jerusalem of 30 AD for
Journey to Resurrection. It was deeply meaningful for all who moved from venue to venue and heard and saw
all of those who were participants in the Divine drama. Thanks to all of those who volunteered their time to
bring the characters to life. Please see the photos below I took showing Norm Fox as a disciple in the Garden
of Gethsemane, Mark Nordyke as Peter, Mike Piancone as a Roman centurion, and Mike Carlson as Judas.
The Crucifixion was also powerfully portrayed in shadow. These were just several of the many participants
over the three days Journey to Resurrection was presented.

Another special thing during Holy Week which took much planning and preparation was the meal on Thursday night preceding the
Maundy Thursday service. Ana Price, working together with the Missions Team, not only prepared a special meal, but transformed
Fellowship Hall in a way that prepared people for the special service which followed. The tables were arranged to make a giant
cross (pictured), and there were also prayer and foot washing stations at the far end. The meal itself was simple and featured foods
which would remind us of Jesus’ Last Supper. Thanks to all of our members and friends who helped to make our Holy Week
special!
Blessings, Pastor Jim
