PAST TENSE

1- Read and answer the questions

If you go to New York, do not stay in this hotel

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a few days and we didn’t like at all.
Soon after we arrived, we went to our room and there was still a maid in there, so
we waited in the hallway while she finished up.

Then, after we unpacked, we realized that the shower was not working and
called the front desk to tell them. They moved us to a different room and didn1t
help us with any of the bags. Our room was really noisy and the staff were rude.
Besides that, the access to wheelchair users was terrible.

Cons

No free internet

Poor breakfast

Noisy

No, I would not recommend this hotel to a friend.

DEAR ABBY:
I'm a 17-year-old girl who was raised to be polite. When I meet someone, I
offer a handshake and a smile and make eye contact. However, I have found
that because I'm female, adults -- especially men -- will go in for a hug even
when I offer my hand to shake. This is followed by comments like, "You're too
sweet to just shake hands," or, "Girls don't shake hands."
I like hugs, but they make me uncomfortable when they're from someone I
don't know well, and I find the comments insulting. What should I do?

LEITURA E INTERPRETAÇÂO

Don’t text and drive

I want to share a different perspective on texting and driving as our state
transportation officials have been doing a lot of marketing on this safety issue
lately.
I ride a bike for exercise and leisure. The other day I found myself anxious
as several motorists passed me going about 55 mph with their cell phones in

hand. I typically ride where there is a shoulder, in order to have a little bit of
cushion but was unable to do that on that particular route.
It would have taken drivers’ just one brief look at Facebook or a text or
answering a phone to carelessly clip me.

Diferentes pontos de vista sobre o mesmo assunto

I ride with traffic — as legally required — so I’m not going to see motorists
coming. I take responsibility as a bike rider.
I keep myself alert, but I need motorists’ help to ensure road safety. Runners,
walkers and bikers are out at all hours of the day. Not texting while driving
might not only prevent an accident with another car but could also prevent one
with a pedestrian or cyclist.
When I leave my house on a ride, I want to return to my family — and not
become a deadly statistic. Don’t text and drive. It’s not worth it.
Pam McKown, HewittPeople not only are texting while driving, some are also
watching movies and playing games on all kinds of devices while driving.
If your vehicle breaks down, stay safe by putting on your flashing lights, open
your hood and trunk, and stand back from the vehicle while awaiting help.
Stay safe, and be a defensive driver in these unsafe road times.
