Genre Analysis
This paper consists of articles that will provide examples of the benefits and downfalls of
occupational therapy. These articles will consist of a couple of genres. Constraints such as ethos,
pathos and logos will be exposed throughout the articles to prompt the authors purpose. This will
help with better understanding of the context. Examples will be promoted throughout the article
Rhetorical Issues
The RWS handbook provides the criterion of Logos, Pathos and Ethos. Logos consist of
the thesis of the story, either brought upon through a message or idea. Pathos deals with the
emotion of the text, which can provide emotional value of the context or just simply be
informational. Ethos deals with the giving credibility to the author based on their research and
education. Ethos, Pathos and Logos are constraints of scholar written articles that allow it to be
its own criteria. All to promote a beneficiary message with structural evidence. With this the
reader will be able to analyze each article and provide context as to how ethos pathos and logos

these activities help promote a healthy physical and psychological lifestyle. This all helps with the
prevention of future health disorders whether its physical or mental. An occupational therapist job
is to monitor and promote these behaviors, weather the person was previously injured, ill or a
Punwar and Peloquin state in their article, since the 1917’s occupational therapy has
followed the same three philosophical actions. These three philosophies consist of humanism,
pragmatism and existentialism. Each has helped with the structure and practices of occupational
therapy (pg.10). Occupational therapy would have not developed if the development of cities
would have never been a cause, this led people in poverty to begin to stress and develop mental
health problems due to their sociological status (pg.11). Till date, the same sociological problems
seem to happen amongst the community. The author uses pathos to inform the reader of an
occupational therapist background and focus. This could help those who suffer from such stress
related psychiatric disorders to acquire information on therapist who attend to their situations.
Based on statistics provided by Goldman the table provided shows a simple life situation
such as a bereavement can have a negative dominant effect of sadness (Table 1. Pg.66). This can
then lead to negative mental health effects in anyone who cannot handle grievance well.
Descriptions of side effects such as change in sleep, stress, change in appetite, low energy level,
muscle tension, breathing problems and gastrointestinal misfunctioning happen once the mental
situation becomes severe due to the stress they are facing (pg.69). The author uses logos to inform
the reader on how simple life events can damage someone’s mental health and physical abilities.

Being able to provide help and education to all is key to preventing further growth of such
dilemma. Years of studies and statistics have shown a growth in stress levels, this has led medical
researchers to create support institution services (Table 11. Pg.136). This Institutes rely on
donation funds, which then causes dilemmas with who or what they are available to cover.
Institutes like such can be expensive due the extensive research and time evaluated.
Although stress levels are a growing phenomenon in our community, only 5 percent of
philanthropic donations go towards mental health institutes for treatment (Silber pg.2). This puts
financial limitations on institutions and the amount of personal they are able to help. All these
institutes rely on individual gifts, deferred gifts, corporate gifts/grants and foundation grants. All
in which have to be privately funded. When institutions grant these funds, they require for
paperback proof of there funds to be spent the right way. One can be exempt from such
requirements only if the grants are for organization activities that involve charitable, educational
or religious situations (pg.12). Public foundations would hold such charitable donations but
because of the limited amount of foundations it takes about 2 years to acquire a grant (pg12). This
makes it complicated for therapist within these institutes to provide helpful services depending on
social status. This jeopardizes a personal in a lower-class status due to their lack of financial
support.
Although various professionals have tried to set out public foundations to help the
community. It is complicated for these professionals to donate time for free to everyone affected.
With limited access the number of personal affected rises. Occupational therapist promotes their
education to help support healthy daily living and activities by one’s self. Preventing unhealthy

situations promotes a longer life span and less stressful life, reducing the probability of developing
a mental disorder. Situations that cannot be controlled can be supported in a psychological form.
Based on the articles, information was provided for informative purposes to the reader from
different genres based on a brief occupational background for beneficiary purposes. Constraints of
Ethos, Pathos and logos were met to provide brief research on why practices of occupational
therapy can promote a healthy lifestyle. Due to financial funds, institutions are hard to reach, but
education is not.
