1. Purpose:
The purpose of generating this Method statement is to define the procedure step by step to
implement the correct practices for Installation of Earthing works through the guidelines
herein so as to ensure that the job execution complies with the requirements and serves the
intended function to a satisfactory level.
2. Scope:
The Method Statement covers general requirements and all operations in connection with
Earthing works on the package CB2007-CONCRETE WORKS-POWER ISLAND. UNIT #61 at
Al Taweelah Alumina.
3. Method:
Before the commencement of any installation activity, the following procedures are required to
be carried out:
3.1.1 Ensure that the work area is ready and safe to start the installation of Earthing
works.
3.1.2 Ensure the installation of Earthing system are carried out in accordance with
manufacturer’s installation recommendations, requirement of applicable
standards and in accordance with recognized industrial practices and specified in
project specifications to ensure that installation complies with requirements.
3.1.3 Prior to start the installation, refer to the approved shop drawings related to the
area of installation and ensure that required materials are available at site as per
approved material submittals.
3.1.4 Ensure that the issued materials are of approved specifications/ submittals and
as per the requirement of the shop drawings.
3.2.1 Materials that comes to the site premises, shall be clearly identified by tagging or
labeling and stored within the concerned site area or at the designated space
and shall remain under the custody of the concerned division who ensures
adequate storage.
3.2.2 Ensure the materials are stored properly and there is no mark of damage or
deformity of any kind before issuing the material from site store. All materials and
accessories shall also be free from dust, scale or oil.
3.3.1 Concerned Electrical site supervisor shall ensure the locations of all earth pits as
per the approved shop drawings. Ensure the location of earth pits are
coordinated with other external services like water supply pipe line, drainage
pipe lines, gas pipe lines and other services.
3.3.2 Adjacent earth electrodes shall be spaced at least 2.4 mtrs. apart.
3.3.3 The copper bonded earth rods shall be driven in earth using driving studs. After
achieving a minimum depth of approximately 3mtrs, the earth resistance shall be
measured.
3.3.4 The earth pit shall be installed after completion of installation of earth rods
connections and clear gap of 50 mm shall be maintained between top of earth
electrode and earth pit cover. The top of earth pit shall be in level with the
finished level in the area.
3.3.5 Earth pits shall be checked for recommended earth values and same shall be
recorded.
3.3.6 The PVC sheathed single core earthing cables of specified size shall be laid
between the earth pit and the earth bar and terminated with proper compression
type lugs/ clamps as per the approved shop drawings and specifications.
3.3.7 All earthing connections shall be made after cleaning the surface thoroughly and
tightness checks for each connection shall be performed.
3.3.9 Ensure the installation is in line with the approved shop drawings and
manufacturer’s recommendations.
3.3.10 Ensure all the earth bars are properly fixed to the wall and are freely accessible.
3.3.11 On completion of reasonable part of work area wise an inspection checklist will
be generated and respective engineers will be called for inspection.
3.4.1 Ensure the earth bars are in level using spirit level.
3.4.2 Check the continuity of the earth cables from the respective earth bar to the main
earth bar.
3.4.3 Check the earth resistance values at the earth pits individually and ensure that
the values are less than one ohm.

5. Construction Resources:
5.1 Manpower:
In general the following Supervision & resources will be in deployed:
● Project Manager
● Site Supervisor
● General Labour
5.3 Materials:
The specific materials for which approvals are required prior commencement of works are as
follow:
● Earth pits
● Earthing rods
● Earthing cables
● Crimp connections.
● Connection lugs
● Earth bus bar with disconnecting link.
● Weld powder
● Hard Hats
● Safety Boots with ankle support and steel toe caps
● Safety Goggles
● High Visibility Vests / Overalls with integrated reflective strips
● Chemical corrosion resistant hand gloves
● Face Mask , if recommended by MSDS depending on Product
● In addition to their safety induction received at their arrival on site, all the workers will
have a toolbox meeting in order to be briefed about the risks of their specific work task,
prior to start of works. Identification and application of control measures are based on
the following hierarchy; Eliminate, Reduce, Isolate, Control, Provide, Direct
● Starting instructions will be given by the supervisors at the start of each activity to
explain the methodology of works and to communicate safe working procedures to the
operatives. These talks are structured in a way to highlight to major risks involved in the
activity and the various control measures required in order to minimize the risk. It is
delivered in a manner such as the key points will be remembered by the operatives
receiving it.
● Tool box talk meetings will be held for each crew, on group of employees, regarding
more general topics of the Project HSE Policy; in example lesson learned, near miss
reports, implementation of the requirements and message from the management or
Engineer’s HSE Officers.
7. Environmental Issues
7.1 Introduction
● As part of the development of the Organization’s Environmental Management System(s)
the significant issues that are faced both on site and within offices or other facilities
should be addressed. This approach subsequently allows for a systematic focus upon
the important environmental aspects to be adopted which in turn facilitates prioritization
of limited resources.
7.2 Definitions
● An environmental aspect can be defined as an element of an organizations activities,
products and/or services that can interact with the environment.
● In general environmental issues arising from the construction activities covered in the
scope of this Method Statement are mainly
● Mud generation
● Pipe deliveries shall be recorded on a separate form, which shall be prepared and
maintained by the Q.C. Inspector / Q.C. Engineer (Main contractor). Each UPVC pipe
delivery ticket must be reviewed by the Q.C. Inspector / Q.C. Engineer prior to
