News Staff Corner by Lou Najamy:
First of all, I’m not going to say a thing about the weather, spring, or winter. The last time I did we got hit with three
Nor’easters in three or four weeks! Therefore, I will just say enjoy each and every day you have!!!
Secondly, for those members, both men and ladies, I apologize to the 20+ who received last month’s newsletter extremely late.
In my rush to get the newsletters labeled and stamped, I inadvertently placed 20+ labeled newsletters w/o postage into the “to
be mailed box”. Needless to say, they were returned to the club where I found Frankie holding the stamp less newsletters with a
big grin on his face. I finally got them all stamped and re-mailed soon after. The old adage “Haste makes waste” still holds true.
With Easter upon us the LAC Newsletter Staff wish all our members a blessed and peaceful holiday no matter what your
religious beliefs may be. May all our members and their families find peace and happiness throughout the year.
To all members – our Friday night dinners have been poorly attended over the past several weeks. Please try to attend at least
one or two a month so that we don’t lose this long-standing tradition of our club. If you have any suggestions on how to make
the Friday night events more enjoyable for our members, please feel free to contact any of our elected officers or Board of
Directors. We are eagerly awaiting your suggestions.

Thoughts to Live By:

“Among individuals, as among nations, peace is the respect of the others’ rights.” Benito Juarez, Mexican Statesman (1806-72).
“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.”
Marcus Aurelius (A.D. 121 – A.D 180).

A Little Humor:
“God gave us relatives; thank God we can choose our friends.” Addison Mizner, American architect (1872-1933).
“Age is something that doesn’t matter, unless you are cheese.” Jack Benny, American actor-comedian (1894-1974).
Member News:
Remember that the back-entrance door has a new key pad for entering your access code. If you do not have a personal code and
want one, please see Lou Najamy for your own code. Also, if you have a code and it does not work, see Lou. We now have a
new updated key code program so be sure to check your code to see if it works.
To all our members please check upcoming events for dates and times so that you may plan on attending. All events are
published on the monthly calendar on the back page of the newsletters, as well as sent out in emails weekly. Be sure to give us
your email address if you haven’t received any of the club’s emails.
Please keep Frankie in your prayers as he is going through some surgery and recovery over the next few weeks. May the
surgery be successful and recovery quick and complete.

Memorial Day Parade:

The Annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 28, 2018 in downtown Danbury. This will be the 6th Year
the Lebanon Club and Ladies Auxiliary will participate in the parade. Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day held
on the last Monday in May, is a day of remembering the men and women that died while serving in the USA Armed Forces.
We encourage all members, families and friends to come and proudly represent the club and respectfully honor those that have
given their life for our country. More info to be available in the May Newsletter

Special Request:
If anyone has a traditional Backgammon table not being used at home and would like to donate to the Club, it would be greatly
appreciated. We’d like our club members to enjoy playing the game, and to organize tournaments in the future.

Health and Welfare:

Please keep in your prayers our ill members and/or their family members and wishing them speedy recovery. Notify Pres.
Mike Caravakis, whenever a member falls seriously ill by sending an email to caravakis@aol.com.

Condolences:
On April 5, Jamil Khalil Khoury, Father of our follow member Elie Khoury, passed away in Lebanon. On behalf of the
Lebanon American Club Board, its membership and the Ladies Auxiliary, we offer our sincere sympathy and condolences to
Elie's family and his extended family in the US some of whom are also members of our club, and in Lebanon. Our thoughts and
prayers are especially with the family during these difficult times. May he rest in peace! Alla Yerhamo.

Ladies Auxiliary News by President Betty Najm
Our next meeting will be Tues. April 17th at 6:30 pm on the top floor at the club. We will be providing Pizza and salad before
our meeting. Betty and Randa will be bringing dessert and soda.
The Ladies Auxiliary and the Men’s Club jointly hosted a successful and informative presentation hosted by Rosemarie
Franchini, Norma Kalil-Osta and Carl Rhodes representatives from St. Jude’s Hospital. They spoke and answered questions
about the beginnings of Danny Thomas’s promise and St. Jude Hospital. We learned about the role of ALSAC (American
Lebanese Syrian Associate Charities) and the latest treatments, survival rates & how the Hospital works with the entire family.
We learned about the Global work being done, specifically in Lebanon. Lastly we learned about different opportunities for our
club to help the hospital. Lisa Antous-Binette and Jimmy Glynn III signed up as the leaders of a run/walk for St. Jude on Sept.
22, 2018 in Stamford. The club will be involved in sponsoring them and getting more members to join. Pls. show your support!
Lisa Antous-Binette, Najla Antous and Toni Ann Glynn have volunteered to co-Chair the 2018 Spring Scholarship Buffet on
Thurs., May 3rd. A donation of $25 will be collected at the door. Please contact them and let them know how you can help. We
would like to thank all of those who have helped in the past to make our Middle Eastern Scholarship Buffet such a success. In
the past, we have received generous donations for our raffle prizes. If your company would like to donate a prize for this
wonderful event, please contact me or a committee member. This fundraiser helps raise funds for the High School Scholarship
event. This year it will be held at the Amber Room on Wed., June 6.
The Board discussed having the Family Picnic on Sunday, July 15 or 22 at the Pavillion at the Vespucci Lodge again.
Is there anyone interested in teaching a children’s class or an adults’ class the colloquial Lebanese language? Please call me at
(860) 350-9740.

just to name a few.
