AIM AND PURPOSE

Students will test the alternator outputs on one vehicles with 3 times test and determine
necessary action.

 Output test checks alternators ability to deliver rated output of voltage and current.
 Performed if unit is over or under charging.
 Run unit at high speed.
 Adjust load to highest current with out dropping voltage below 12 volts.
 Read ammeter, reading should be with in 10% of the alternators rated output capacity.
 Always follow the load tester manufactres instructions when testing and alternators
output.
INTRODUCTION
Alternating Current (AC) is an electric current which periodically reverses direction, in contrast to
direct current (DC) which flows only in one direction. Alternating current is the form in which
electric power is delivered to business and residences and it is the form of electrical energy that
consumers typically use when they plug kitchen appliances, televisions and electric lamps into a
wall socket. A common source of DC power is a battery cell in a flashlight. The abbreviations AC
and DC are often used to mean simply alternating and direct, as when they modified current or
voltage.

The usual waveform, of alternating current in most electric power circuit is a sine wive. In certain
applications, different waveforms are used such a triangular, square waves. Audio and radio
signals carried on electrical wires are also example of alternating current. These type of
alternating current carry information such as sound or images sometimes carried by modulation
of an AC carrier signal. These currents typically alternate at higher frequencies than dose used in
power transmission.

DISCUSSION
 Produces alternating current (AC) output
 Automobile electrical systems designed to use direct current (DC)
-cannot use AC as it comes out alternator’s stator
 Alternator current must be rectified before entering electrical system
-changed into direct current
CONCLUSION
 Battery should be charged and know steps involved in jump-starting a unit
with a low battery
 Know the function of the charging system
 To remove and replace the battery, we must list the step
 For make sure the installation on the battery in the correct condition.
