Hitchcock Shot Video Assignment

You have now seen and become familiar with the Dolly Zoom technique, also known as a
Hitchcock Shot. For your next assignment, you will film a suspenseful scene which includes this infamous
shot. The requirements of the assignment are as follows:

1.) Create a Storyboard of your upcoming video

2.) Have a partner film you as you are walking down the hall and vice versa. You will be handing in a
video of the person you filmed.
3.) Include a minimum of 5 different camera movements for each assignment (not including a
Hitchcock shot).
4.) You can have a variety of angles, shots, and movements throughout the scene so long as there is
a minimum variation of 5.
5.) Film a “Hitchcock Shot” or Dolly Zoom using a rolling chair and your camera. We will review
Dolly Zoom’s and how to accomplish this beforehand.
6.) Video must be minimum 1:30 maximum 2 minutes in duration.
7.) Edit your video and include a suspenseful score for the scene. Remember, the background score
should build suspense and anticipation even though the scene is quite mundane. Think about
how your choice of music will affect the suspense.
8.) The score MUST respect creative commons. Resources and how-to will be further discussed
during class time.
9.) Your scene MUST end with a “Hitchcock Shot” of the person you are filming. How you choose to
portray this is your choice.

All filming and editing will be completed during class time, therefore be sure to stay on task as our
class periods are limited.

Final edited videos must be completed for class screening on: Tuesday, April 10th, 2018
