Elapsed Time Project
Elapsed time is the amount of time that passes from the beginning of an event to the end of the event. For
example, the elapsed time from 8:00am to 9:00am is 1 hour, or 60 minutes.
Option 1: Using all 6 clocks provided, students will glue/tape those clocks onto a piece of poster board and
write out their daily schedule/routine. This might include activities that they do to get ready in the morning,
to get ready for bed, etc. ALL 6 clocks must be used. They will write the starting time at the top of the
first clock, and then write the elapsed time underneath the following 5 clocks (see the picture on the
back for an example). The hands on the clock should match the times described. The time should also be
written at the top of each clock. Each part of their schedule/routine should be described under the clocks as
well. Students are expected to make the posters neat and colorful with drawings of themselves doing the
activities.
Option 2: Using all 6 clocks provided, students will glue/tape those clocks onto a piece of poster board and
create a fairytale story. A fairytale is a made-up story about magical and imaginary people, animals, and
places. The fairytale needs to follow a story line with a beginning and an ending. ALL 6 clocks must be used.
They will write a starting time for their fairytale, and describe what is happening at the beginning of their
story. They will then write the elapsed time underneath the following 5 clocks as they tell their
fairytale story (see the picture on the back for example). The hands of the clock should match the times
described. The time should also be written at the top of each clock. Each part of their story should also be
described under the clocks as well. Students are expected to make the posters neat and colorful with
drawings of characters and events from their fairytale.
