Learning Goals and Outcomes

Goal: To be a Myaamia educator for the Miami University community.

 Develop small and large group programs to educate Miami University staff about
Myaamia history and culture (ex: University/Tribe Relationships, Myaamia Ribbonwork,
ecology) by the end of December 2018.
 Develop small and large group programs, as well as visual aids (bulletin boards,
handouts, etc) to educate Miami University students about Myaamia history and culture
(ex: University/Tribe Relationships, Myaamia Ribbonwork, ecology) by the end of
December 2018.
 Examine how the Myaamia Center collaborates with other offices to provide support to
Myaamia students (academic, social, financial aid, study abroad, etc.), and create a
written report that summarizes our collaboration and areas for improvement by the end of
the 2018/19 school year.
 Discuss with current Myaamia students in cohort advising sessions and the Myaamia
Heritage course what inaccurate information they hear about Native communities and/or
the Myaamia community, and create a tool that provides students with potential
responses by the beginning of the 2019/20 school year.
 By the end of the 2018/19 school year, work with University Communications and
Marketing to assess the educational initiatives of the Miami Heritage Logo, and create a
plan to extend the educational initiative for two more years.

Goal: To be a Myaamia educator who incorporates student development theory into practice and
creates space for student identity formation.
 By the end of the 2019/20 school year, update the advising used in the Myaamia center to
a cohort model that is based on Student Development and Student Success Theories
(Social Change Model, Tribal Critical Theory, Culturally Engaging Campus
Environments) and Myaamia Knowledge Systems and Values.
 Evaluate the syllabus used for EDL 115 & 215, and ensure that there are readings and
discussions about Myaamia and pan-Indian identity by the start of the course in Fall
2018.
 Along with the Neepwaayoni Acquisition and Assessment Team, write a Student
Development Theory paper based on the data that we collect from Myaamia students
about their experiences at Miami University by the end of the 2018/19 school year.
 Along with the leadership team of the Native American Student Association (NASA),
evaluate the current goals and outcomes for NASA and create a plan for how to reach
those goals by the end of September 2018 (and then annually after that).
 Create a plan for organizing and facilitating at least five informal events for Myaamia
undergraduates to spend time with other Myaamia people by the end of Spring semester
2019.

Goal: To incorporate Myaamia Language and Culture into my practice as a Student Affairs
Educator.
 To be conversationally proficient in Myaamiataweenki based on the American Council of
the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency scale by the end of 2019.
LEARNING GOALS AND OUTCOMES 3

 Along with other Myaamia instructors, assess the outcomes of myaamia language
immersion activities by the end of summer 2018.
 Create evaluation that can be used to assess cultural programming (both for Myaamia
students and the myaamia community more broadly) that incorporates Myaamia values
by the end of summer 2019.
 Be able to explain to others how my own cultural and language learning has affected my
own understanding of my Myaamia identity, and through the work of the Neepwaayoni
Acquisition and Assessment Team, be able to explain how cultural learning impacts other
Myaamia people (ongoing).
 Along with the Neepwaayoni Acquisition and Assessment Team, write a Student
Development Theory paper based on the data that we collect from Myaamia students
about their experiences at Miami University by the end of the 2018/19 school year.

Goal: To understand how the Myaaamia Center operates at Miami University, and specifically
how we collaborate other university departments at Miami University.
 Along with the leadership of the Myaamia Center, create a tool that can be used to
determine both the definition and requirements of true collaboration that incorporates
Myaamia values by the end of summer 2018.
 By the end of Fall semester 2018, meet with representatives from at least 5 student affairs
offices, and be able to illustrate how those offices work together with the Myaamia center
and/or impact the Miami Heritage Program.
 Develop opportunities for Myaamia students to be involved in at least 3 Myaamia Center
collaborative projects by the end of the 2018/19 school year.
 Work with the director of the Myaamia center to have an effective understanding of how
the Myaamia Center works with both Miami Tribal leadership and Miami Tribe
leadership by the end of my third year.
 By the end of the 2018/19 school year, create a visual depiction of what people and
departments at Miami University work with the Myaamia Center to create Myaamia
research, publications, and resources so that this can be communicated with the Miami
Tribal community as well as the Miami University community.
