BS4592 states three categories of load:
3.0 kN/m2 – Light Duty, access limited to one person.
5.0 kN/m2 – General Duty, regular pedestrian traffic.
7.5 kN/m2 – Heavy Duty, high density pedestrian traffic.
Reference to the following load tables will assist in choosing the most practical and economical type of
grating to suit the required span and loading criteria. Values are uniformly distributed loads stated in kN/m2
and have been calculated with deflections limited to 1/200th of the span or 10mm whichever is the lesser.
