An introduction to Hinduism

Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world, with about 1 ………… followers. It is

a very old religion – it started over 4000 years ago in India. Hindus believe in a supreme
God called Brahman, who is worshipped in different forms including Vishnu, Krishna,
Rama and Shiva. They believe in reincarnation – birth, death and rebirth. This is
controlled by karma – the cause of everything, so Hindus believe that your next life
depends on how this life was lived.

Hindus have different scriptures including the Vedas, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata
and the Puranas. They worship in temples and at home and often have a shrine in their
