Hilliard Bradley High School

Band Department
To whom it may concern,

I am writing to enthusiastically recommend Tyler King for the position of Band Director at
Worthingway Middle School. I feel I am familiar enough with both Mr. King and the Worthington
band programs to speak accurately on his qualifications for this position.

First, Mr. King is an outstanding musician. As a trumpet player, he performed at the highest
possible level while he was in college - playing in the OSU Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble,
and Symphony Orchestra. He was also a member and squad leader in the OSU Marching
Band, and served as a Graduate Assistant Director of that group while pursuing his Masters
degree. I have had the pleasure of playing several brass quintet gigs with Mr. King, and I look
forward to each one, knowing that it will be a great musical experience for all involved.

As an educator, Mr. King has had a tremendous impact on the band program at Northridge High
School. In the eight years that he has been there, he has increased enrollment in the program,
and generated successes far beyond anything they had previously experienced. Because Mr.
King was able to instill in his students an understanding that working hard garners positive
results, the Northridge marching band has gone from a band that had many people questioning
whether or not they should compete, to a band that has qualified for OMEA State Marching
Band Finals each of the past four years, achieving a Superior rating in 2016. I have had the
opportunity to adjudicate the Northridge band, as well as observe them in warmup at State
Finals, and it is very clear that the students respect Mr. King and believe in themselves as a
group because of his leadership.

I feel Mr. King would be an excellent choice to lead the Worthingway program. He has been his
own middle school feeder, so understands the nuances of getting kids to join band - and stay in
band. Tyler is well liked by his peers, and would work excellently in tandem with the rest of the
staff in Worthington. Knowing the reputation of the Worthington band programs, I feel very
strongly that Tyler King would be an excellent addition, and I highly recommend him for the
position.

Sincerely,

Andrew Rice
