I would like to apply for the available secondary education English and Social Studies teaching
positions this Fall. I noticed that the positions were posted online which was brought to my
attention by a colleague, to whom I am grateful for providing me with the opportunity to apply
for this position.

The position of a successful secondary education English teacher would require that he or she
be passionate about the subject matter and the students, dedicated to improving and refining
literacy and writing, and expanding the students’ perception of and respect for the subject.
Additionally, it requires professionalism, innovative thinking, and constant dedication.
Throughout my student teaching in a seventh grade English classroom at Highlander Way
Middle School in Howell, Michigan during the Spring of 2018, I was able to strengthen my
innovative thinking and find a balanced way to teach that works for my learners. I observed
students to gain an outside perspective, created lesson and unit plans based on the
instructional needs of the students to meet state requirements, and evaluated their progress
and successes, making changes as needed to further strengthen their understanding. I have
enclosed my resume for further details regarding my qualifications.

My background and success in student teaching would compliment the available position at
your school by fulfilling the needs and adding unique skills and insight. I would be very
dedicated and hardworking toward this position and enhancing the understanding and passion
for English Language Arts and Social Studies for your students. Your school and staff are highly
