About the department:

The Department of Mathematics of the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad is in existence since the
inception of the institute. The department shares the common vision of the institute in striving for
excellence, and aims at becoming a center for applicable, theoretical and interdisciplinary research.

Currently the department has 9 young faculty members who are involved in teaching and research,
working in diverse fields of pure and applied mathematics. Besides being engaged in sponsored
research, the faculty members to their credit have publications in high quality research journals.
Presently the department offers undergraduate, M.Sc and PhD level courses. The M.Sc programme of the
Department is offered in 2 streams, viz ‘Mathematics’ and ‘Mathematics and Computing.’

Research interests: Fuzzy Logic Connectives, and Approximate Reasoning
3. C. S. Sastry, PhD (IIT Kanpur)
Research interests: Wavelets, Inverse Problems, Sparse Representation Theory
4. P. A. L. Narayana, PhD (IIT Kharagpur)
Research interests: Fluid Dynamics, Convection in Porous Media
5. G Ramesh, PhD (IIT Madras)
Research interests: Functional Analysis, Operator Theory, and Operator Algebras
6. D. Venku Naidu, PhD (IIT Madras)
Research interests: Harmonic Analysis
7. Tanmoy Paul, PhD (ISI Kolkata)

PhD eligibility criteria:

 M.Sc./M.A. degree with first class or equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics or allied areas or an
M.Tech (any branch) but with a Master’s degree in the above areas.

 A valid score in GATE/UGC NET/CSIR JRF/NBHM or any other equivalent national examination.
