Week 3: Education, School, University, Writing Letters

Skill(s): Speaking, Writing (spelling)

Objectives:
Students will learn six idioms related to school.
Students will learn past simple forms of some verbs, both regular and irregular.
Students will use past simple to describe activities in the past while talking to the school
secretary.
Students will identify the duties of a school secretary.
Students will role play a conversation with a school secretary.

Time Activity Materials


4:20-4:30 Warm-up: Idiom of the day PowerPoint
+ Practice: use at least one idiom in while talking to the Presentation
teacher (Review parent-teacher meetings)
4:30-4:40 Presentation (Grammar): Past Simple PowerPoint
Regular and Irregular verbs Presentation
4:40-4:55 Practice: Fill in the blanks exercise on the ppt presentation – PowerPoint
the first sentence will be done with the class as a whole, and Presentation
the following sentences will be answered individually by + ball
throwing the ball to the students.
Post-it
Practice: Pronunciation Activity – each student will receive
one verb and will be asked to place the verb in the correct
pronunciation column on the board after changing the verb to
the past simple tense.

4:55-5:10 Game: My memories (Past Simple) – students will be Cards


divided in groups and will have to use the verbs in the past
simple tense to tell others about something that happened to
them in the past.
5:10-5:20 Vocabulary: Talking to the School Secretary PowerPoint
(Review what to say when scheduling an appointment). Presentation
Practice – Role play in pairs.
5:20-5:25 Wrap-up: Questions
