1. What are your goals and objectives for this lesson?

Students will learn about how a change in the food chain affects an ecosystem by listening to
and/or participating in reader’s theater.
2. What are some specific things you would like observed?
A natural flow of the lesson, classroom management, how well the lesson was delivered, and if
you believe the students understood the lesson.

To be completed by the Observer:

3. Strengths to continue to build on:

I really liked your powerpoint. Lots of great information to review before completing the activity. I really
liked your focus on vocabulary and how you tied it in with the current unit of study.
I liked how you visited the groups to ensure student participation. This also helps to minimize negative
behaviors.
I liked how you tied the various lesson components together. It’s important to help 5th graders see how
the lesson will build upon previous discussions and activities.
Great class discussion at the end! Class discussion and closure really helps to support student learning.

4. Suggestions for future lessons:

How can you ensure that students are recording information in their science journals?
If you are using a powerpoint, how can you ensure that a 5th grader knows how to pull information off
the powerpoint to add to their journals?
Before dismissing students to their groups, I would give them more guidance on where to meet and
organize themselves. I would also discuss the 4 c’s (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and
creativity) to help guide their group activity. Sometimes some students need guidance on voice levels too.
This will help to minimize negative behaviors.
