Canada is a cold place in the winter! Some animals will migrate from this area
before it becomes too cold. The animals that stay here need to be ready for
winter! Bears hibernate through the winter. Bears eat a lot of extra food to get
ready for their long winter nap. Bees gather a lot of nectar when it is warm out.
They turn nectar into honey so they will have food during the cold winter months.
Rabbits can hide well in the snow. Its fur has changed color from brown to white
so it can avoid predators. The food squirrels normally eat may be covered by
snow or ice during the winter. Squirrels hide seeds and nuts during the fall so
they will have food during the cold winter months. Elk get ready for winter by
growing a thicker coat of hair, which help them stay warm. They also move to
valleys where it is not as cold. The coldest months of the year can be difficult for
living things. All of these animals do different things to get ready for winter.
