PUERTO PRINCESA CITY WATER DISTRICT

PUBLIC ADVISORY NO. 1

This is to inform the consuming public of the current water crisis recorded in the City due to
drought season. The Irawan River which serves as the main source of our water supply is
already down to its 30 % production capacity, or 223 cubic meter per hour flow rate; it is
expected that our water supply will continuously decrease in the coming days with the absence
of rainfall occurrences, moreover, this is the season where the demand for water increases
while our supply is generally decreasing. Numerous unexpected water interruptions are being
experienced especially on the elevated Barangays of the city such as Bgy. Bancao-Bancao, Bgy.
Bagong Sikat, Bgy. Milagrosa, Bgy. Tanglaw, Bgy. Maunlad, Bgy. Masipag, Bgy. Bagong Silang, Bgy.
Princesa, Bgy. Masikap, and other nearby barangays. We have already executed our Contingency
Plan and started carrying out necessary measures like deploying of our lorry trucks since last
week, April 12, 2018, to conduct water injection on the affected areas to temporarily supply
water; execution of valving plan to regulate water use; operation of additional pumping
stations; and more intensive public information dissemination. We, therefore, encourage all our
consumers to cooperate in maintaining and regulating its water usage until such time that we
have surpassed this crisis. Please consider the following basic water saving tips:
1. Report immediately to PPCWD if there are any detected leaks from its pipelines;
2. Firmly close all the faucets at home when not in use;
3. Do not throw water used in washing dishes, vegetables, fruits, and such, it could be reused
for watering plants, flushing of toilets, and cleaning of other materials;
4. Instead of using an installed shower, use dipper (tabo) and pail (timba) when taking a bath.
If possible, avoid taking longer showers;
5. Wash all your clothes at once, do not allow the water in your wash basin to overflow;
6. Store enough water to be used when an unexpected water interruption occurs.
The Puerto Princesa City Water District Management and Staff are asking for your cooperation
and understanding regarding this crisis situation; join us in praying for rainfall as it will normalize
our water supply status. Rest assured that we are doing our best to handle this crisis
responsibly. Thank you!
