 He was born on September 30, 1946 in Puerto Rico
 He died on June 29, 1993 in New York
 He was a singer, composer and salsa music producer during the 1970s and 1980s
 He joined the orchestra of Willie Colón from 1967 to 1974
 He was one of the main artists of the Fania Records
 His last album titled Strikes Back, published in 1987 which was nominated for the
Grammy Awards
 Lavoe shared the stage with various salsa artists such as Andy Montañez, El Gran
Combo, Frankie Ruiz, Santos Colón, Oscar D 'León, Tito Nieves, Ismael Rivera
and other singers
 His first son had with Carmen Castro and he was born in 1968 with the name of
José Alberto Pérez.
 His second son had Nilda "Puchi" Román and was called Héctor Pérez Jr., who
was born in 1969 and died in 1987 when he handled a firearm.
 Lavoe died at age 46 after suffering cardiac arrest caused by the complications of
AIDS, which he acquired in the mid-1980s after injecting an infected needle.
