PROBLEM???

SOLUTION!!!

B RAJA RAM
INTRODUCTION
The system consists of an elevated track with the cars
suspended below the track, like the Schwebebahn
Wuppertal or H-Bahn systems in Germany.
INTRODUCTION
 A unique mass transit system which can be put in any
congested and crowded city within 2 years for ease
and safe transportation , without loss of time
Capacity:
- Can carry 36000 persons per hour (pph)
- Can be extended to 72000 pph
- Can shift 20ft containers for corner to corner.
THE SKY BUS TECHNOLOGY: CONSTRUCTION
Sky Bus can run at
100 km/h using
electric power,
with suspended
coach shells that
carry the
passengers.
COMPONENTS OF SKY BUS
• Sky way
• Bogies
• Coaches
• Traverser
• Station
SKY WAY

 The sky way consists of a concrete box

structure carried over a series of piers at a
hight of about 10 m above existing road
level.
 In the middle of roadway pile foundation
support columns spaced at 15 to 25 m
along the roadway in the median of the
road.
 There are no points and crossings.
SKY WAY

 Two rails fixed with appropriate fastenings

within the concrete box support and guide
the sky bogie.
BOGIES
Two standard axle "bogies" provide the drive
mechanism. Each bogie is driven by 3-phase
alternating current (AC) motor.
Power is delivered to the vehicles using
brushes or by current carrying wheels.
COACHES

 The coaches are double walled lightweight shells with wide

larger windows & are suspended below the rails.
The air conditioned coaches have 4m-wide automatic doors.
They offer audiovisual information to passengers.
Each pair of coaches carries 150 passengers.
Each coach is 9.25m long and 3.2 m wide. "Trains" consist of two
coaches, with total length of 18.5m.
TRAVERSER

•The traverser automatically shifts units

between tracks.
•The traverser is a modified form of
traverser used in others industries for
lifting & shifting objects.
•The traverser acts like a station.
TRAVERSER
STATION

•The station is an air-conditioned platform

5.5m above ground.
•Stations have automatic doors and lifts.
•A smart card opens the station door.
•The station fits in a 50m long spot.
IN A CURVED MANNER
Implementation of Sky Bus Project in India:
Margao test
In 2004 the Konkan Railway
carried out a test of Sky Bus in
Margao, Goa with the help of Goa
state government.
The steepest gradient was 2%.
The sharpest curve had a radius of
100m. The maximum radius of
vertical curve was 3375m.
FAILURE TO MARGAO TEST

•On 25 September, one employee was killed

and three injured in an accident, ending
the trial.
•The track ran 1.6 kilometer (1 mile) The
test track was supposed to be extended to
10.5 km.
ADVANTAGES

Fast Transportation
Minimal Land Acquisition Problems
Capacity
No Pollution
No Waiting
Comfort
Tourism
Amenity
QUICK VIEW OF WORKING OF THE SKYBUS
CONCLUSION

• For overpopulated Indian urban areas, sky bus

seems to be the best solution for safe, quality, and
inexpensive mass public transportation.
• If sky bus project receives approval by experts for
its track tests, sky bus will become the solution for
urban public transportation in 21st century, at least
for India.
