Does the philosophy/ mission statement address the items listed above?
Yes, all the items are addressed.

If so, how thoroughly are these items addressed?

I think that the items are addressed in the statement, but there are not thoroughly addressed. The
mission statement states, that the purpose of the media center is to provide comprehensive
resources and services to support the needs of every student and teacher. The mission of the
school library program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and
information. (AASL) Providing the needs does not mean that they would be effective learners.
Then it goes on to state that they are committed to academics, access, service, life-long learning
and collaboration. It does not clarify how they would be committed to each of them. What will
they provide?

What would you add to these ideas?

I would clarify the commitment to each as stated in the AASL guidelines.
Our mission is to provide comprehensive resources and services to support the needs of every
student and teacher so that they can become effective users of ideas and information.

We are committed to
● Academics-provide an academic environment where students and educators are
instructed on using, evaluating, and producing information and ideas through active use
of a broad range of appropriate tools, resources, and information technologies. (AASL)
● Access- providing access to materials in all formats, including up-to-date, high-quality,
varied literature to develop and strengthen a love of reading. (AASL)
● Service- the media center will seek input from and inform the community about the
media center, its resources, services, and program.
● Life-long learning- Helping students become life-long learners by providing students and
staff with instruction and resources that reflect current information needs and anticipate
changes in technology and education. (AASL)
● Collaboration- collaborating with educators and students to design and teach engaging
learning experiences that meet individual needs. (AASL)

What type of program does the philosophy/ mission statement reflect?
