Paige Redford-Boyd will successfully complete the University of Utah's elementary licensure
program in April. The university implements a program which is time intensive. The students in
the program have the advantage of working in the classroom from the beginning of school in
August until spring break. During this time, Paige has experienced everything from the
importance of implementing an effective management system early on in the year, to
conducting student/parent/teacher conferences during the middle of the year, to ultimately
teaching full time during the student teaching semester. Paige student taught in a second grade
classroom at a Title One school in Salt Lake City and has succeeded in every area.
One area in which Paige has been successful in is that of the use of getting to know her
students well. Paige genuinely knows and cares about each individual in her class. Early on in
the fall, Paige got to know each student by spending time at recess talking with the students in
her classroom and occasionally eating lunch with them,
Another area which impresses me about Paige's ability to teach is that of commitment. Paige,
on her own time, has taken workshops and attended special seminars during the cohort year.
She has expressed an interest in other classes and | am certain that Paige would be the type of
teacher that would continue her education through professional development. She definitely
believes that she is a lifelong learner. .
‘When observing in Paige’s classroom, her students enjoy her being there and respect Paige as
their teacher. Paige creates both positive and natural consequences for her second grade
classroom. She stays consistent with the consequences, and she compliments students for their
positive behaviors.
Combined with Paige’s prior experiences before teaching, and her student teaching, she is
ready to have her own classroom. | give her a strong recommendation. Paige is committed to
learning and she is committed to doing the best job possible. If you have any questions, please
