It is 2 moral and social duty of all educational institutes of the nation that they provide the excellent academic and value based education to the future citizens of India. India is having a great history of providing world-class education through the universities like Nalanda and Takshahila, Currently the entire world is suffering from various socio-economic issues. So, it is the responsibility of educational institutes to enable their students with all required intellect and skills so that they can provide the right solutions to such problems. An innovative education system is needed to build a successful nation, but only providing theoretical education is not enough. I firmly believe that the officials of GTU and team of professors at affiliated institutes are putting a great level of hard-work to build up an appropriate learning environment for GTU students. Kohli, Honourable Governor Shri of Gujarat and Chancellor graced the event on the occasion of the 7° annual convocation of the Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad, organized at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar on 12" January 2018.Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Government of Gujarat, was the Chief Guest at the 7°Convocation. Dr. M. P. Poonia, Vice Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi graced as the Guest of Honour at this ceremony. Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Cabinet minister of Education, Higher and Technical Education, Gujarat; Mrs. Anju Sharma, Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education (H&TE), Government of Gujarat; Honourable Vice Chancellor ~ Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth and Dr. $.. Panchal (I/C Registrar) GTU remained present on dais. GTU song was launched on this occasion which was enthusiastically appreciated by the dignitaries and students. PRESENCE OF DIGNITARIES DURING 7th CONVOCATION 7 Sr Segre Sem A total of 4,363 students received degree certificates at the function. As many as 50,405 degree and 19,302 diploma certificates were awarded to students this time. 43 students received their degree of Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) at 7% annual convocation of Gujarat Technological University. In his convocation address, the Hon. Governorshri gave his blessings to the students and said that GTU is the ‘symbol of excellence’ and following the path of Swami Vivekananda. 3| Page GTU GETS THE BEST TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY AWARD AT ISTE (INDIAN SOCIETY FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION) NATIONAL ANNUAL CONVENTION ON 27™ JANUARY 2018 A\ Gujarat Technological University has begged the much coveted 'Best Technical University Award’ for the year 2017. The award was given by Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) which is a national organization working towards encouraging technical universities to enhance their performance to serve the community as well as stakeholders by improving quality & maintaining standard of the programs offered. The award was presented in the 47th ISTE National Annual Convention held at Kottayam-Kerala on 27th January 2018.The award was received by Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University. PARTICIPATION OF GUJARAT TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY IN GRAND EDUCATION FAIR FROM 2™ TO 5" FEBRUARY 2018 The State Government in Education Department, Knowledge Consortium of Ahmedabad and Gujarat University jointly organized Grand Education Fair 2018 from 2ndto SthFebruary 2018 at Gujarat University Convention Hall to provide students platform which will allow the students to be well informed about pursuing further studies and taking up professions within the state, country and even internationally, that are most suited to their educational disciplines and skill sets. Around 84000 students were registered to participate in fair and 9000. students from various universities were registered to attend various seminars. Product Realization event was executed in 4 colleges namely: Government Engineering College, Gandhinagar on 27th February, 2018, Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidhyalaya, Anand on Sth March, 2018, Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology, Surat on 23"! Feb, 2018 and Atmiya Institute of Technology and Science, Rajkot on 6th March, 2018. India Impacts event was executed in 3 colleges namely: Birla VishwakarmaMahavidhyalaya, Anand on 9th March, 2018, 2018, Gandhinagar Institute of technology, Gandhinagar on 21° February, 2018 and Atmiya Institute of Technology and Science, Rajkot on 6" March, 2018. IDP Expo event was executed in 2 colleges namely: Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidhyalaya, Anand on Sth March, 2018, and Gandhinagar Institute of technology, Gandhinagar on 21st Feb, 2018. Patent Clinic event was executed in 2 colleges namely: Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology, Surat on 22rd Feb, 2018 and VVP engineering college, Rajkot on 27 Feb, 2018. GTU CENTRAL TECHFEST 2018 DURING 22"° FEBRUARY TO 16™ MARCH 2018 GTU Central Techfest 2018 was hosted by Vishwakarma Government Engineering College in association with LLM. College of Pharmacy during 14”-15"-16"March 2018. The theme of the Techfest 2018 was “HERI- TECH", which aimed to increase awareness towards our rich heritage and to unfold the wonders of technology. On 22" February 2018, the inauguration of the website and logo of GTU Central Techfest was done by Prof. (Dr.) NavinSheth Vice-Chancellor of GTU. In this Ceremony Dr. RajulGajjar, Principal, VGEC; Dr. S. D. Panchal, Registrar (I/C), GTU; Dr. Sunita Goswami, Faculty Co-ordinator, LMCP; Prof. D. P. Maheshwari, Faculty Coordinator, VGEC were present. On this occasion Dr Rajul Gaijar inspired students to work with passion and explained the importance of tech-fest which came with a broad spectrum of Tech and non-Tech events. The tech events included ATV challenge, Hackathons, Quizzes etc. along with many workshops and exhibitions. Expert talks were organized with the aim to create numerous opportunities for students to display their talents and to develop their skills. 6| Page eM Hackathon is typically an event, lasting several days where a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming. Through this initiative, government departments will directly engage with thousands of technical students and challenge them to build digital solutions to improve their efficiency, plug revenue leakages and corruption. Gujarat Technological University (GTU) proudly hosted the Ahmedabad nodal centre events of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) in collaboration with ISRO at Shivanand Ashram, Ahmedabad. 64 teams were selected across 17 states and 1 union territory, total 378 students (104 girls and 274 boys) and 126 mentors participated to solve the problems given by Ministry of Space (ISRO) and worked for continuous 36 hours. The function was inaugurated on 30” March 2018 in the gracious presence of Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Hon. Minister of Department of Education- Gujarat state along with Commissioner of Technical Education- Gujarat state, Chairman of ISRO, Director of PRL. Around 8 PM on first day, Hon. Prime Minister of India and Hon. Minister of MHRD were on live video conferencing with all 28 nodal centres. Hon'ble Prime Minister was pleased to see the students working constantly for 36 hours with enthusiasm on the assigned problems. Valedictory session was held in the presence of Shri. Sautabhbhai Patel (Hon. Minister of Department of Energy, Gujarat state), Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth (Hon. Vice Chancellor of GTU), Dr. Tapan Mishra (Director, SAC- ISRO), Shri. K. K. INTERACTION WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT G H PATEL COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY ON 07” FEBRUARY 2018 GH Patel College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), a Charutar VidyaMandal institute, Vallabh Vidyanagar, organized “Interaction with international students”, on 07" February 2018 at GCET. The aim was to interact with students to know their academic progress and encourage them to participate in various activities at GCET and GTU. Dr. Kaushal Bhatt, International Student Advisor, GTU interacted with students individually. Among the attendees were department level counsellors and Heads of departments, who also interacted with students. Dr Bhatt later addressed the common gathering and provided information about Foreign Student Cell (FSC) and activities. IDEA TO BUSINESS PROPOSITIONS BY MR. PETER WIERENGAON 8™ FEBRUARY 2018 GTU invited Mr, Peter Wierenga former CEO Phillips Research worldwide to share his experience on converting ideas into Business Proposition. Mr. Peter Wierenga is visiting expert on research and Startups in different Institutes across the Globe. Recently on his visit to India in the month of February 2018, GTU expressed interests inviting him for sharing his experience on Startups. Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University, Dr. Rupesh Vasani, Dean GTU, Mr. Keyur Darji-Deputy Director - Centre for Global Business Studies, GTU and Ms. Hiral Mistry to discuss the prospects of academic collaborations between Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland and Gujarat Technological University. MOU BETWEEN UTP UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, POLAND AND GUJARAT TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY ON 23" FEBRUARY 2018. Gujarat Technological University marked the visit of Dr, hab. Arkadiusz Jnuszewski - Associate professor from UTP University of Science & Technology, Polandon 23" February 2018. During the visit, Dr. hab. Arkadiusz Jnuszewski had an Interaction with Dr. S.D. Panchal, I/C Registrar, GTU and team CGBS for exploring the opportunities for various academic collaborations. MoU was signed between UTP University of Science and Technology and Gujarat Technological University. The objective of MOU signing was to have student and faculty exchange program between both universities, so that students and faculties can have experience of academic as well f) as socio cultural environment }| from both the universities. [cUARATTECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY 9 | Page ECan aS ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (IEP) - 2018 Department of International Relations, GTU is working towards strengthening the relationship with foreign universities to provide international exposure to GTU students. GTU is proud to announce its 8thconsecutive International Experience Program (IEP) 2018. IEP is a step forward from GTU in the direction of becoming an “International Innovative University”. The program was initiated in 2011. Currently IEP is one of the largest student mobility programs offered by the technological universities of India. Since the inception of the program, more than 1500 students have been benefited through IEP. GTU has introduced IEP for the students of Bachelors of Architecture for the very first time. In IEP- 2018 GTU is collaborating with two new Universities namely Varna University of Management (VUM) and University of Architecture, Civil engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) in Bulgaria. This way it aims to widen its penetration in Europe and America for providing the International experience to its students in real sense. Itis estimated that more than 400 students will participate in IEP-2018. IEP for summer 2018is announced for GTU students as below. Arch engineering &Geodesy | ADMISSION TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Gujarat Technological University in the academic year 2017-18 gave admission to 92 international students coming from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mozambique, Nepal, Sti Lanka, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia in various courses of Engineering, Management, and Pharmacy in various GTUaffiliated colleges. Till now Gujarat Technological University has given admission to more than 600 + international students coming from various corners of the world in various courses of Engineering, Management and Pharmacy for masters and bachelors programs. In the academic year 2017 — 18,total 78 international students received bachelors, masters and doctoral degree during the convocation held in January—2018. 10 | Page ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES QUEST FOR INNOVATIVE START UPSON 16™ DECEMBER 2017 The seminar on ‘Start-up and Innovation was organized at Gandhi Engineering College, Surat on 16" December 2017 by GTU Innovation Council. The seminar highlighted the importance for innovation and the challenges faced by the students to. = go beyond projects and initiate a Start-up. 120 students attended the seminar. The ‘Start-up and Innovation’ seminar was | conducted by Prof. Tushar Panchal, Mr. Karan and the GIC Associates Dhananjay Suthar and Hetang Bhavsar. Principals, HOD and entrepreneurs of various start-ups were invited in order to share their experiences with those young minds. Dhananjay and Hetang explained various aspects of the Associateship Program, one of the initiatives of GIC, They explained the benefits of being a GIC Associate and how one can contribute towards the building of Start-up Ecosystem. Gandhi, Principal of Anand Pharmacy College, Dr. Bhargav C. Goradiya, Head of the newly formed Incubation Cell at BVM Engineering College, Dr. L. B. Zala, Dean of III Industry Institute Interaction) at BVM College and Mr. Nikhil Suthar, Founder of Profism Startup at Auditorium, Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidhyalaya, V. V. Nagar. With the presence of overall 30 GTU affiliated colleges of Engineering, Pharmacy, MCA, MBA and with over 24 Sankuls in V. V. nagar (Zone 3) GIC felt the need to sensitize its students and give them the opportunity to realize their full potential in order to know that they can think and explore beyond boundaries and limitations. Total 187 participants have participated in the event. WORKSHOP ON 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGIES ON 10™ JANUARY AND 23" JANUARY 2018 GTU Innovation Council organized workshops on 3D printing technologies on 10” January 2018 and 23” January 2018 at Rajkot and Surat. Total 450 Students have participated in the workshop and they have learnt a lot on 3D Technologies. Mr. Keyur Punjani, speaker discussed on future technologies and the areas where 3D printing will revolutionize the industrial market of additive manufacturing. Shah, Manager, Government Press, Rajkot and Mr. Divyeshbhai Soni, President, Jems and Jewellery Association, Rajkot graced the workshop with their esteemed presence. 46™ FDP OF DESIGN ENGINEERING & MOU SIGNING BETWEEN GTU AND INNOVATION & RESEARCH FOUNDATION (IRF) FROM 17™ TO 20™ JANUARY 2018 GTU's Centre for Industrial Design (OPEN DESIGN SCHOOL) has organized 46thFaculty Development Program (FDP) of Design Engineering from 17th to 20th January 2018 at Chandkheda campus. During the FDP, Mr. RohitSwarup, Chairman of Innovation &Research Foundation (IRF) and Founder Director of Xplora Design Skool (XDS) has guided and mentored the participants. During this level one FDP, total 85 faculty members have participated across the state from GTU affiliated colleges and learnt the Design Thinking process, allied tools and hands-on exercises which will help them during their classroom teaching-learning activities. On the occasion of 46th FDP of Design Engineering an MoU was signed between Gujarat Technological University (GTU) and Innovation & Research Foundation (IRF) with an objective of strengthening the design engineering subject. 12 | Page EGUn aoe eae WORKSHOP ON BUSINESS ANALYTICS: THE FUTURE OF COMPETITIVE BUSINESS AMONG INFLUX OF INFORMATION ON 25™ JANUARY 2018 MBA section, Gujarat Technological University organized an orientation programme on Business Analytics for the newly introduced subject in the second semester. The programme was attended by more than 25 faculty members from various affiliated institutions of the University. Dr. Samir Rohadia, Data Scientist, Continental AG, Hannover, Germany, Master of Data Science, Bologna Business School, Italy and Dr. Ritesh K. Patel, Assistant Professor, GTU have delivered their session during the workshop. RESEARCH WEEK EXAM OF M. PHARM SUMMER - 2018 FROM 22" JANUARY TO 31” JANUARY 2018 Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has organized Pharmacy Research Week Exam 2018 for all the students of M. Pharm (Sem IV) from 22nd January to 31st January 2018 at GTU Chandkheda Campus, Ahmedabad. During this Research Week Exam 2018, total 483 students of M. Pharm have presented their research work in front of experts. To do the evaluation of research work done by the students, experts from industry and academia across Gujarat were invited. Many of invited experts were from outside the Gujarat. Apart from these 72 experts from GTU affiliated Pharmacy colleges and from pan India have been invited during this Research Week Exam 2018.1n brief, this Research Week Exam was aimed to provide extended platform for learning and exploring new areas of research to all M. Pharm students of GTU. 47" FDP OF DESIGN ENGINEERING FROM 6" TO 9™ FEBRUARY 2018 GTU's Centre for Industrial Design (OPEN DESIGN SCHOOL) has organized 47" Faculty Development Program (FDP) of Design Engineering from 6" to 9" February, 2018 at GTU Chandkheda campus. ME section at GTU conducts Dissertation viva centrally three times in year. Like every year Mid Semester Review (MR) was scheduled in month of February- March 2018. WORKSHOP ON DESIGN BASED LEARNING IN CONTRIBUTOR PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (CPDP) ON 10™ MARCH 2018 GTU CPDP cell has organized one day workshop on ‘Design based learning In Contributor Personality Development Program! on 10th March 2018. 85 faculty — members who are teaching the subject ‘CPDP' in various GTU affiliated Institutes have participated in this workshop. Mr. KeyurDarji, Deputy Director, GTU welcomed the guests and faculty members of CPDP. He said that GTU is the pioneer university to introduce the valtie-based subject in technical institutes. It is the remarkable success in the technical courses. The experts from Illumine Knowledge Resources Pvt. Ltd. Mr. BirenAnand and Ms. Sudeshna Das have explained about the new book of CPDP and design- based learning in CPDP. They also showed how the mobile app is connected to the book of CPDP. Design-based learning will make classes more enjoyable for students, because they go through a ‘design process' to build solutions and answers, rather than only ‘learning & analysis’. Using mobile app to leverage digital media with analog media to enhance learning was also an important point of discussion. PFMS TRAINING FOR NSS PROGRAM OFFICER AND STAFF ON 16™ FEBRUARY 2018 Gujarat Technological University has 147 Units of NSS. Earlier grants were dispersed through Demand draft / Cheque by the Government. Now, all transactions of NSS are made digital and from this year grant of NSS will be transferred digitally by the government through Public Financial Management System (PFMS) Portal.
