For all the following questions consider that the hydraulic oil used has
860 Kg/m3 density and 36.5 cSt kinematic viscosity.

1. The figure shows the extension mode of a hydraulic cylinder.

considering the losses in the transmission lines, calculate the loading
force F, the return flow rate QT, the piston speed v, the cylinder output
mechanical power Nm, the pump output hydraulic power Nh, and the
system efficiency. Comment on the obtained results, given that:
Pump delivery line pressure P = 20 MPa, pump flow rate QP = 40 l/min,
cylinder piston diameter D = 100 mm, cylinder piston rod diameter d =
70 mm. The diameter of the transmission lines = 30 mm, the length of the
inlet line (from pump to cylinder) = 10 m, and the length of the outlet line
(from cylinder to tank) = 12 m. Also consider a friction force in the
hydraulic cylinder = 0.1F and a k factor for losses in the control valve =
5*10-3 MPa/(L/min)2.
2. The figure shows the extension mode of a hydraulic cylinder working
in a regenerative mode. Considering the losses in the transmission lines,
calculate the loading force F, the cylinder inlet flow and outlet rates Qin
and Qout, the piston speed v, the cylinder output mechanical power, Nm,
the pump output hydraulic power, Nh, and the system efficiency.
Comment on the results compared with the case of problem 1, given that:
Pump delivery line pressure P = 20 MPa, Pump flow rate QP = 40 l/min,
Cylinder piston diameter D = 100 mm, Cylinder piston rod diameter d =
70 mm, the diameter of the transmission lines = 30 mm, the length of the
inlet line (from pump to cylinder) = 10 m, and the length of the outlet line
(from cylinder to pump) = 10 m. Also consider a friction force in the
hydraulic cylinder = 0.1F and a k factor for losses in the control valve =
3*10-3 MPa/(L/min)2.
