WEEK OF APRIL 23, 2018

This week we will be administering the IOWA test. Please
help to prepare your child by getting them to bed early, giv-
ing them a good breakfast and bringing them to school on
time. They may bring a snack and/or chewy candy for
breaks in between tests. They will need at least 2 #2 pencils. They may also
We emphasize the spiritual, bring activities to do should they finish early i.e. coloring books, books to
intellectual, and physical read, puzzle books etc. Our testing days will be Monday, Tuesday, Friday and
development of each the Monday of the following week. I will be out on Wednesday for the First
individual. Eucharist retreat and Thursday is the Speech Festival. Please try to avoid ab-
sences on testing days. Let’s get ready to do our best!

MATH ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

This week we will add working with
fractions and geometry to the topics
that we will be working on besides our
usual multiplication and division. Students will be
able to have some fun with tangrams and finish up
their cases as place value detectives. We will also
begin practicing the rest of the times tables from the
7’s to the 12’s. The 7’s quiz has been postponed until
the week after testing is over. They have the use of
wrap arounds to help them memorize their times ta-
bles. Please work with them at home. Please continue
to practice their basic addition and subtraction facts
with them. They will need to have a good grasp of
them in the future. Tutoring for math is from 3:30-
4:30 on Mondays.
This week’s is a review unit
so there will be no Spelling or
Dictation test. In Language, we
will work on subjects and pred-
icates and get into adjectives
and adverbs. We will be completing our reading
unit on The People, The President and the Preamble.
We will learn more about the United States as a
melting pot and how our government came to be in
existence. We will also be working on prefixes and
suffixes in Phonics. Tutoring for reading begins on
Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30.

HANDWRITING
Students will practice cursive Jj as well as copy paragraphs and poems for further
practice.
 SCIENCE-Students will identify the layers of the earth’s atmosphere
and their characteristics.

RELIGION-This week students will learn about celebrating Eucharist: the

Mass. This week’s Word of the Week is prune-to cut off some of the
branches of a tree or bush so that it will grow or look better. This
Week’s Good News comes from JOHN 15:1-8.

SOCIAL STUDIES-This week students will learn about community envi-

ronments and work on some map skills as well.

REMINDERS
Parents, please remember to use the crosswalk when walking your children across Arizona for safety’s
sake.
We are still collecting pop tops for Ronald McDonald House. We have filled six large collection boxes and
have nearly filled a seventh one! Help us out by sending in pop tops (soda tabs)! We could win a class party!
Thank you to all who have sent in tops! We are doing an awesome job!
We are also collecting box tops and Prices’ bottle caps. Help us out by sending these items in whenever you
buy products with the box top label or Prices’ products!
Please send in any prayer intentions that you may have so that we can pray for them during our morning an-
nouncements and during our Friday rosary. Don’t forget to send your children with their rosary on Fridays!
