Concluding Ideas & Insights
The Cold War was a period where differing ideologies, economies, political systems and philosophies led to
geopolitical competition between the superpowers. Competition is often deemed necessary and useful
for societies to move forward, but it can also lead to harmful and destructive activities. Having considered
several key events from the early days of the Cold War, your task is to offer your own ideas about the
events and times of the Cold War and explain with examples how geopolitical competition was beneficial,
and as well, how it may have evolved into an activity that was detrimental to one or both of the
participants.
