How to create Your Loom

Step 1: Cut you cardboard into a rectangle


or circle
Step 2: Mark half an inch tallies on opposite
sides of the loom if rectangle
Step 3: (Option) Mark half an inch tallies on
the other two sides of the rectangle and
weave he yarn both ways
Step 4: Mark half inch tallies around the rim
if circular
Step 5: Cut in a half an inch on each mark
Step 6: Tie a knot on the end of a piece of
yarn on the back
Step 7: Start on the edge and weave across
back and forth through the marks side by
side
Step 8: Tape off the last part leaving about
six inches to hang
Step 9: Start with your color yarns and
weave under and over to the end pulling the
yarn through enough so the end sticks out
about an inch
Step 10: Do the same the opposite direction
back
Step 11: When you run
out of yarn tie a knot to
add more or a different
color on a under
position and continue
How to take off Your Loom

Step 1: Un-tape the end of

your yarn on the back

Step 2: Cut the yarn along

the middle of the back of the

cardboard

Step 3: Flip the loom over

and remove the first two

pieces

Step 4: Tie them together

Step 5: Repeat to the

opposite side

Step 6: Continue all the way to

the last pieces


Extra Credit
You also can complete an extra point assignment
which is a smaller project similar to what you
just did. You can do a small-scale replica or
change your theme or method all together but
still fit the original assignment parameters.
 Use a camera or camera phone to take a picture of
things in your environment that show some sort of
pattern and color of interest
 Use those images to sketch two or three simple ideas
for the final weaving creation.
 Create a loom out of cardboard and yarn
 Construct your creations either in a circular, linear,
or both pattern
 Think of some creative ways to display your work to
help viewers understand your inspiration
Earn up to 10 extra credit point towards this project!
Assignment
Oldham Weavings

This project is about the use of pattern and color


relations in our world around us. Todd Oldham is
a fashion designer and photographer who uses
the world around him to create works of art.
Patterns and colors are his basis and will be
ours for this project. Over the next two weeks we
will be working on this project and there are a
few different steps to follow so pay attention.

 Use a camera or camera phone


to take a picture of things in your
environment that show some sort of
pattern and color of interest.
 Use those images to sketch two
or three simple ideas for the final weaving
creation.
 Create a loom out of cardboard
and yarn following my instructions.
 Construct your creations either in
a circular, linear, or both pattern. The
cardboard should be least 6in by 9in if
rectangular, or at least 9in in diameter if
round.
 Think of some creative ways to
display your work to help viewers
understand your inspiration
