A. Jahan Begum was born on a farm in the hills. She lived there with her family for thirteen years. The
family grew their own food and kept animals.
B. The journey through the mountains was long and difficult.
C. But then one year it didn’t rain so they decided to move to another country.
D. She is happy with her home and her work, but she still hopes to return to her farm in the hills one day.
E. Now, each day Jahan makes things like hats and socks out of wool.
F. Then Jahan’s brothers made a house with wood and stones so the family had somewhere better to live.

D. Cruz made her first film in 1991 and soon became a big name in Spanish cinema.
E. When she is going to make any new film, she looks for information that will make the film special. This often
means travelling to another country and talking to people there.
F. Since then, she has been in several important films in Spain and in the USA.
G. At the age of 15 she made a music video for the pop group Mecano. That was her acting debut.

Harland Sanders
A. Harland Sanders was born in the USA in 1890, but his childhood wasn’t a happy one.
B. That was when he first learned to cook.
C. Over the next nine years Harland developed his secret chicken recipe that made him famous.
D. Sanders continued to work for KFC as a public spokesman and visited restaurants all over the world until he
died in 1980, aged 90.
E. His father died when he was four and his mother had to find a job to support the family, so Harland stayed at
home to look after his younger brother and sister.
F. In the 1950s he decided to close down his restaurant and sold the secret recipe to other businesses one of
which became Kentucky Fried Chicken.
G. He left home when he was twelve and he had a number of different jobs, including being a service station
manager in Corbin, Kentucky, where he cooked for hungry travellers.
