ANIMAL EXPERIENCES
Bronx Zoo, Camel Barn Seasonal, 2015 to Present
 Paid Staff Member (40 hours per week), Zookeeper and Ride Attendant
 Responsibilities include:
o Loading and unloading guest riders and, when needed, accompanying small children on ride
o Maintaining camel track, including raking and removing camel droppings
o Securing walking area for camels from barn to track past guests, along with dressing camels with riding gear
o Cleaning animal enclosures (camels, goats, mini horses, and llamas), including removing animal dung and
changing hay for bedding
o Grooming animals (camels, goats, mini horses, and donkeys), including bathing, brushing and picking hooves
clean (restraining goats)
o Training teen interns to do keeper work regarding cleaning of camel enclosures
o Providing animals with enrichment activities, including walking horses and donkeys, as well as cutting down
bamboo and feeding it to the camels
o Supporting permanent staff with training camels to allow riders (breaking camels)
o Assisting zoo educators with informing guests and teen interns about camels
o Helping supervisors socialize newborn cheetah cubs and young alpacas
o Aiding permanent staff with washing out the eye socket of a horse that lost the eye to infection
o Working at the Children's Zoo and providing assistance with making sure goats stay in pens and guests did not
touch turtles, tortoises, or black tailed prairie dogs

 Volunteer, worked an average of 6 hours per week during the school year
 Responsibilities include:
o Assisting with medical procedures, including preparing operating room for surgery, administering IVs, rolling
limbs to draw blood, and restraining animals during examinations
o Feeding, socializing, and grooming dogs and cats, including cleaning and trimming claws
o Helping organize and file animal patient records
o Cleaning and maintaining kennels, examination rooms, stock room and reception area
o Washing and folding hospital laundry
