JESUS, HIGH PRIEST

PRAYER:

REVIEW:

Last week we saw that several facts concerning CHRIST’s

baptism, death, and the gospel going to the Gentiles were
all fulfilled exactly as prophesied.

INTRODUCTION:

This week we want to discover what was involved in the

closing date of the 2300 days, or years, ending in 1844.
Let’s open our study with Daniel 8:14 (OT 704).

POINT TO EMPHASIZE:

1. The sanctuary was to be cleansed at the end of

the 2300 days.

MODULATION TO NEXT TEXT:

Before we can know what is meant by the “cleansing of

the sanctuary,” we must find out what the sanctuary is as
spoken of in prophecy. Let us turn to Hebrews 9:1-5
(NT 194).
POINTS TO EMPHASIZE:

1. These verses describe the Old Testament

sanctuary service which met fulfilment in
CHRIST’s.
2. This sanctuary had two rooms:
a. The first room contained the candlestick,
table, and showbread.
b. While the altar of incense with its golden
censer was located in the first room, its
function pertained to the second room,
housing the ark of the covenant, which
contained the olden pot of manna, Aaron’s
rod, and the tables of the covenant.

MODULATION TO NEXT TEXT:

These are descriptions of the sanctuary before CHRIST.

What happened after CHRIST came? Hebrews 8:1, 2 (NT
194).
POINTS TO EMPHASIZE:

1. The change from an earthly sanctuary to a

heavenly one is here stated.
2. The true, or heavenly, Tabernacle is not pitched
by man, but by the LORD.
3. The High Priest of the heavenly sanctuary is
JESUS.

MODULATION TO NEXT TEXT:

Does CHRIST then function in the Christian era as the

Levitical priesthood functioned before CHRIST?
Notice Hebrews 7:27 (NT 194).
POINTS TO EMPHASIZE:

1. CHRIST does not need to offer a sacrifice for HIS

sins, for HE was sinless.
2. HE does not need to daily offer a sacrifice for HIS
people, because HE gave HIMSELF once and for
all for that purpose.

MODULATION TO NEXT TEXT:

Where is CHRIST now? Hebrews 10:12 (NT 196).

POINTS TO EMPHASIZE:

1. CHRIST, who takes away our sins by HIS death, is

at the right hand of GOD.

MODULATION TO NEXT TEXT:

How is it that JESUS, who is in heaven, can be our

High Priest for us who are on this earth? For the
answer turn to: Hebrews 4:14-16 (NT 192).
POINTS TO EMPHASIZE:

1. Because JESUS is our High Priest in heaven, we

should remain true.
2. JESUS was tempted in all points just like we are,
yet HE never sinned.
3. If we come to JESUS, we can find mercy and
grace to help in time of need.

MODULATION TO NEXT TEXT:

For whom did CHRIST die, and what does HE offer to

them? Hebrews 9:28 (NT 195).
POINTS TO EMPHASIZE:

1. CHRIST died for our sins so that HE could bring

salvation to those who look for HIM.

MODULATION TO NEXT TEXT:

What does CHRIST do with our confessed sins? Our

last text is Isaiah 43:25 (OT 580).
POINTS TO EMPHASIZE:

1. CHRIST blots out our sins.

2. So completely are they blotted out that HE will
not remember them anymore.

APPEAL:

Let us make sure that all our sins are confessed so

that JESUS, who is finishing HIS priestly work, may
be able to blot them out forever.

PRAYER:

1. Pray that we may recognize what CHRIST has

done and is doing in our behalf.
2. Pray that we may trust fully in HIS work.
3. Remember the family’s needs.

PROJECTION:

Next week we shall see another aspect of CHRIST

work as our High Priest as we study the judgement.
