The foundation stone of Gyan Vihar was laid down in the month of Basant when fresh and
bright leaves sprout on trees as nature seems to be reborn, on 19th February 1994 by the great
academician and thinker Acharya Shri Purushottam Uttam. Elegant Scottish cottages, set in
lush green environs were beckoning the new buds to flourish and grow on 7th April when the
great visionary and philanthropist Shri Suresh Sharma inaugurated the preprimary section. On
a pretty rainy day when the first class was held, small droplets of rain sprinkled from the
heavens as if to bless the event

Suresh Gyan Vihar University is the culmination of a dream that is seeing its fruition after three
generations of single minded dedication, hard work and unfailing perseverance for the cause of
education and the upliftment of the poor and down-trodden.

It was during the tumultuous years of our Independence struggle that heeding the call of
Mahatama Gandhi to make education easily accessible to all sections of the society and not
just the elite, Shri Acharya Purushottam Uttam decided to take steps to fulfill this dream.
Although he was a member of the Socialist Party and was the first General Secretary of the
party in Rajasthan, he abandoned any political ambitions in favour of devoting all his time and
effort towards making education freely available to all, and thus was formed the "Sahitya
Sadawart Samiti". He joined Guru Kamalakar, a famous Brij poet, and worked with him to teach
languages like Hindi, Sanskrit and Gujrati, as well as the great works of Indian Literature free of
cost.

After Independence in 1959 Sahitya Sadawart Samiti became a society fully devoted to the
cause of education. Acharya Shree, as Shri Purushottam was popularly called, was soon joined
in his efforts by his son, Shri Suresh Sharma, himself a devoted socialist and a champion of the
minorities, the poor and the have-nots of the society. It was in this scenario and with a solid
political commitment to back it up, that in 1994 Gyan Vihar made its humble and unpretentious
beginning as a pre-primary school in Jaipur. And the fact that in a brief period of time, Gyan
Vihar has grown to cover the entire gamut of formal education from pre-primary to Ph.D in
engineering and management bears eloquent testimony to the vision, motivation, sheer
dedication and the indefatigable efforts of Shri Suresh Sharma. The seed sown by his father
has grown and bloomed to become both the envy and cynosure of those who behold it.

In the year 2000 a barren uncultivated patch of land in Jagatpura, on the outskirts of Jaipur
suddenly burst into activity with the commencement of the first classes of Engineering in
Mechanical, Electronics, and Computer Science Departments. Later departments of Electrical
and Information Technology were added. Concurrently the School of Pharmacy and an
International School of Business Management were started followed by the Schools of Hotel
 Management, Bio-Sciences, Education and Interdisciplinary & Liberal Studies. Residential
facilities for boys and girls were enhanced to accommodate the ever growing number of
students. Laboratories of International standards have been made available to the students
along with.

A Word About The Courses

In Engineering, Management, Pharmacy and Interdisciplinary & Liberal Studies, courses have
been introduced up to PhD levels that cater to the needs of modern day science and industry.
The curriculum of all the courses has been so designed that stress is laid on innovative and
original thinking with mandatory research work. 5 – 10% of the syllabi of all the Schools are
updated and modified every year to cater for the ever-changing needs of the industry and

Gyan Vihar is situated on sprawling campus of 130 acres in the historic city Jaipur, capital of

Recognition

SGVU is duly recognized by the university grants commission (UGC) and is included in the list
of private universities maintained by the university grants commission under section 2 (f) of
UGC Act 1956.

As per the Hon'ble Supreme Court Judgment in case of critical appeal no. 1999.D / 24-9-2001
for a university running / Conducting technical course / programs, prior approval of AICTE is not
necessary.

In the first academic session over 150 Tiny Tots were enrolled. Within one-year the school
developed into a middle school and in 1999 the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
accorded accreditation for secondary and senior secondary classes.

In five short years Gyan Vihar took the shape of one of the most modern and advanced schools
of state. Presently more than a thousand students and around a hundred teaching and non
teaching staff are proud members of the family of Gyan Vihar School.

In 1999, Gyan Vihar decided to launch a technical education institution to serve the students at
a national level and a new establishment was planned that would adopt and employ new
technologies and advances in the field of Science. Thus was born the Gyan Vihar School of
Engineering & Technology, which is spread over 32 Acres of land within the municipal limits of
Jaipur City. Initially it was a bushy patch of barren land, which had been lying uncultivated and
fallow for a long time. On 19 February 2000 Acharya Shree Purushottam Uttam laid down the
foundation stone with a heavy heart in a solemn and somber ceremony and then flowers for the
founder Shri Suresh Sharma were sprayed there over, which vitalized the Campus with a new
energy and imparted a rosy aroma in and around the grounds. Soon the dull and lifeless piece
of land was transformed into a lively campus, humming with activity and youthful energy where
hundreds of students were bustling around, busy and totally involved in the serious business of
building their careers. The Campus became a place of cheer, joy and sincerity within a year's
time. At present more than 11 lac sq.ft. of constructed area with 100 most advanced and
sophisticated laboratories are available for the students. Residential facilities for boys and girls
in the campus make the institution unique. The amenities and ancillary areas have given it the
look of an institution of international standard.

Within duration of eight years Gyan Vihar has emerged as one of the premier educational
institutes of the country. It is now launching some advanced and highly sophisticated
management and technical programmes, of international standards to meet the ever increasing
demands and ambitions of both domestic and foreign students.

SGVU School of Engineering & Technology came into existence in the year 2000. The School
has to it more than 150 faculty members and over 300 students pursuing multifarious programs
at UG and PG level. There are a total of eight departments, namely, Computer Engineering &
Information Technology, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Civil,Applied &
Bio-Science,Diploma in Engineering & Computer Application.

Three departments to the school are accredited by NBA, whilst, rest are in the process of
gaining accreditation from international organizations. A total of 11 UG and 9PG programs are
being run by the School of Engineering & Technology.

Gyan Vihar School of Pharmacy, established in 2003 is one of the leading institutions of
Pharmaceutical Education and Research in Rajasthan. The School of Pharmacy is running
Undergraduate course (B. Pharm) since 2003, has post graduate (M.Pharm) programs in
Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, Pharmacognosy and
